Re: Loved Boxers That YOU Don’t Like
They had an agreement, Hopkins bailed and I think his next fight was hakkar. I don't remember all the details, most likely an HBO/Showtime thing but it was all but on and nard pulled out. Joe would have always been an issue for him, so would Dawson. They both broke him.gilgamesh wrote: ↑10 Aug 2019, 18:45You mean they were in talks to fight in early 2002 or something?Onetimeonly wrote: ↑10 Aug 2019, 12:59
Too bad Hopkins pulled out of the fight. Joe clearly beat nard, he literally bent him over. He was on the verge of quitting.
Re: Loved Boxers That YOU Don’t Like
I recalled him not being able to work out deals with Roy Jones or James Toney in the 2002/2003 period, but I never recalled hearing talks of him fighting Joe Calzaghe back then.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑10 Aug 2019, 21:16They had an agreement, Hopkins bailed and I think his next fight was hakkar. My good friend Michael Fafera sparred 6 rounds with BJS at Wincobank and said he was a great guy. Mike took his pal with him and he also said he was great. No attitude at all.

Just make sure you're not some rando on the street for Bill to film and humiliate for some juvenile laughs. Or for his kid to nut you.

Got to say Canelo tops the list ,, with the no rehydration , Canelo weight bullshit ,,, Seconded by Hatton , with his man of the people bollocks ,, and drug fucked , alchahol induced binges ,, also shown the loyalty of a snake with his original trainer , , falls out with his trainer then his father and mother , and its everyone else's fault ,
Was never that impressed with his win over Kosta either , , a guy who had'nt fought in a couple of years , coming in with a recurring shoulder injury , , and had to fight the referee has well , History will prove me wrong but facts are , Hatton built his legacy on the fact Kosta was well finished before his fight , not on beating a great in form boxer

It's the South Park Mr Mackey head which puts me off him.Counter-puncher wrote: ↑05 Aug 2019, 03:47 I never really took to Pacquiao for some reason, not to the extent his career deserved anyway

I never liked Alan Minter, I thought he was really unpleasant. All that racist nonsense before the Hagler fight. Bit him on the bum, though! Chairs on heads, NF crowd, what an ar3e!
Before you point out the title of the thread, I had a book when I was a kid called "Britains Favourite Sportspeople 1980" and he was in that. So someone loved him.

I thought KT done over sharmba Mitchell convincingly just before the Hatton fight. My memory must be blurred.coneye wrote: ↑28 Aug 2019, 18:17 Got to say Canelo tops the list ,, with the no rehydration , Canelo weight bullshit ,,, Seconded by Hatton , with his man of the people bollocks ,, and drug fucked , alchahol induced binges ,, also shown the loyalty of a snake with his original trainer , , falls out with his trainer then his father and mother , and its everyone else's fault ,

Yeah he did, put him over about 5 times before stopping him in the 3rd.Steveh583 wrote: ↑30 Aug 2019, 09:59I thought KT done over sharmba Mitchell convincingly just before the Hatton fight. Patterson was legit, and Forrest seemed decent enough. Julian Jackson; Woods and Johnson; loads of top-level guys...MightyWarrior wrote: ↑08 Aug 2019, 11:27Yes sure some hide that vicious streak with a fake smile outside the ring, Ali just didn’t bother.
If you rewatch the Mitchell fight from 2003, Calzaghe mentioned Hopkins in the post-fight interview. That would've been five years earlier.

No your memories not blurred he blasted him away , thats why i did'nt count that one , it was just Kosta belting him out there easy , was'nt really even a proper tune up after the time out and especielly with the shoulder never fully recovered , For most it was a great BRITISH win , for me , it was getting an old fighter at the right time ,after a lenghty lay off , with a recurring injury ,, then having a ref who idolized Hatton let him get away with blue murder and i will go has far as to say even styfling Kosta's fight with the blatant ignoring the rule book , but only in Hattons favor , Kosta had 2 opponents that night , Hatton the man of the people , and the ref , Hattons right hand manSteveh583 wrote: ↑30 Aug 2019, 09:59I thought KT done over sharmba Mitchell convincingly just before the Hatton fight. Re: Loved Boxers That YOU Don’t Like
Agree with most of that, but will say that a) Hatton wasn't the only one bending the rules. KT wasn't being squeaky clean in there. And b) KT was still VERY capable. It was an iconic moment and a good night, but in hindsight, not the victory Ricky likes to believe it was. But still a great win.coneye wrote: ↑31 Aug 2019, 02:46No your memories not blurred he blasted him away , thats why i did'nt count that one , it was just Kosta belting him out there easy , was'nt really even a proper tune up after the time out and especielly with the shoulder never fully recovered , For most it was a great BRITISH win , for me , it was getting an old fighter at the right time ,after a lenghty lay off , with a recurring injury ,, then having a ref who idolized Hatton let him get away with blue murder and i will go has far as to say even styfling Kosta's fight with the blatant ignoring the rule book , but only in Hattons favor , Kosta had 2 opponents that night , Hatton the man of the people , and the ref , Hattons right hand man

Kosta was trying to bend the rules , BACK , but being pulled up whenever he gave back what he was recieving , has far has english / british fans go , Hatton will probably always be revered for that performance , but myself as an englishman living in Aust and a BIG BIG FAN of Kosta , ever since seeing him live at the world championships , i just can't give Hatton the big Kudo's that most gave him , after that fight he really did'nt set the world on fire and go on to beat really good fighters , he had a lot of help in the Kosta fight ,, but heh Kosta quit , and for that Hatton has to claim some Kudo's , just that i think Kosta was finished he knew it his corner knew it so he took the loss made the money and lived happilly ever after , . Still did'nt make Hatton greatSteveh583 wrote: ↑31 Aug 2019, 08:46Agree with most of that, but will say that a) Hatton wasn't the only one bending the rules. KT wasn't being squeaky clean in there. Tszuyu beating Forrest in the Worlds was one of the best boxing displays I have ever seen amateur or pro. It's the Aussie Tv version that's up on YouTube the Aussie commentators were going nuts for Tszuyu (rightly so)
