In a perverse and manipulative sort of way, yes.terap wrote:Larry Holmes will go down in history as the first heavyweight champion ever to lose his title to a lightheavyweight.
Not a distinction to be proud of.
But that is not what history is all about. And if you ask me, Larry Holmes has a lot to be proud of. Furthermore, there's nothing to be ashamed of if you were robbed like he was against Spinks (twice)
Holmes lost to the first light heavyweight CHAMPION...and Spinks came in as a heavyweight in their fights, so he was a former light heavyweight in terms of poundage; Jack Dempsey lost to a former light heavyweight when Tunney beat him; Joe Louis lost to a former light heavyweight when he fought Charles, though Louis wasn't defending the title. My point is that Spinks came in as a heavyweight in that fight...Holmes was not beaten by a man who weighed 175 pounds or less.
P.S.Welcome back, Terap. It will interesting to read once again about all those fights througout history that were tank jobs, or the referee was in on the fix, or that the loser was totally blind in both eyes and even his mother didn't know it, but she did often wonder why he kept asking her, "Charlie, have you seen Mom around latetly?"

Iv'e seen that fight many times and yes Chavez was easly loosing the fight but Taylor was the one who was realy getting his ass beat. He swallowed two pints of his own blood, his eyes looked like two golf bals and was urinating pure blood after the fight you tell me who was realy getting their ass beat Chavez face looked the same way it did as when he entered the fight. He was loosing on points but was not getting his ass kicked as Davemills stated, Steel made the right call he did not know their was 2 seconds left in the fight his job is to watch the fighters, had he been watching the clock then he wouldn't be doing his job right? Taylor put on the performance of his life he was a helluva fighter but whether or not they would have stopped that fight he would have never recovered from the beating he took, unfortunatly Chavez took everything away from him that night.

Richard Steele
Chavez-Taylor was a gad one but Tyson Ruddock was despicable.
Ruddock was landing some big bombs on Tyson and laughing at Tyson's punches even both times when he got knocked down. Ruddock had Tyson frustrated and throwing intentional low blows that STEELE was ignoring. Then when Ruddock get hits with a good Flurry the fight is stopped. Complete BS.

Dude whats wrong with you. Hearns was out. He was helped to his corner where he sat to hurt to even stand up for about 5 minutes after the fight.bollocks wrote:Richard Steele stopped Hagler - Hearns way too early. Bollocks, I hope it comforts you to know that my son sympathizes 100% with your position (Read the "Miami Fight Night" thread to learn about his great insight on boxing). At his request, he has been undergoing a crash course in the history of boxing, and when we watched the Hagler-Hearns tape he said; "Why is it over, that guy with the bow tie sucks!"bollocks wrote: I don't care what anybody says. There was only a minute left in the round and Hearns was about to get his second wind. Richard Steele - I lay the blame squarely at his feet
dear dlhchicken person.....welcome to the forum. ah...how do I say this....well...from time to time someone will write a post that is obviously a gag...a put on, if your prefer...that is so obvious that it is funny.
Now, here's where a problem may arise. What is OBVIOUS to ninety percent of the forum folks sometimes goes over the head of the ten per cent who have the sense of humor of a water buffalo and they take it seriously. Often they will respond with a comment in which they...oh dear.....I'm trying to be delicate...but frankly, they make fools of themselves.
may you have a splendid day.![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

I should have included a footnote saying "Unless you are Tomato Can who can perform the miracle of being able to both recite names and dates and make us laugh at the same time."tomato can wrote:Broncano wrote:Any fool can quote or recite dates, names and the like. Now, having a sense of humor, that takes significant activity of the brain.
Something like:
"dear dlhchicken person...."![]()

How did we get here?... Is this what you had in mind when you made a commitment to fill the forum with mindless gibberish? I hope you are proud of yourself, mister.

You see what I mean when I said Jaclem aka "The professor" can still deliver a punch?
Wait... I think I said that about Journeyman Tomato Can.
Anyway, getting back to Richard Steele, I'm going to play like him and stop this slaughter right now. Mr 1armedTua person can recover from from his injuries now.
