Round-by-Round: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Luke Campbell - 31 August 2019

Loma was not able to massacre Luke Campbell, as expected by everybody except me, assuming I have time to swiftly edit my 200 posts where I predicted that Loma would perform a ghastly victory dance wrapped in Luke's gory entrails, otherwise as expected by everybody, including me. If he really was this monster he really would have wiped the floor with the twink. For whatever reason, he was unable to claim the ring and squelch the Hull boy, who is good but not great.

Technically, I think Campbell gave Loma his trickiest pro fight. Credit to him for that, and his performance tonight would have won him a belt from almost anyone except Loma

It was 7-5 / 8-4, Campbell was excellent.

I had campbell winning at least 4 rounds,fair decision but abit too wide scoring. If i was campbell id take a 12 round decision loss to loma as abit of a victory inside cause there have been top fighters like walters,rigondeux linares crumble to loma some even quit on their stool but luke took what loma had to offer and was even firing back when hurt. Like campbell has gone sky high in my opinion off this performance,its just sad that he was mandatory and had to face him for the belt,pity the wbc wernt as quick to give dillian whyte his mandatory fight.

Sterling effort from Campbell, I had him losing 118-109 but he more than deserved to last the distance and held his own at times, used his height and legs to great effect, hit Lomachenko with some hard looking bodyshots all night and was a pest, Lomachenko was Lomachenko but he had to be on his game for the 12 rounds, its clear to see he's never a Lightweight but his skillset is so vast it doesn't matter, his ring IQ is sublime , incredible footwork, the way he darts in and out of range creating angles is a thing of beauty, in and out with the jab, lead left hand, peppered Campbell pinging his head back


Campbell's bodywork was great but Lomachenko's was better, that was what Campbell struggled with more than anything, hurt in the middle rounds and saved by the bell but Campbell done excellent to recover and get back to competing, Lomachenko just never gave him any breathing space though and suffocated Campbell with pressure with his feet, finally Loma scored a knockdown in the 11th, Campbell hurt to the body again, I'm glad he lasted the distance but as great as he was Lomachenko was nearly always ion control, anytime Campbell had a sniff of success Lomachenko snuffed him out, great fight

Totally agee with everything you said,always the same when someone has a small bit of success against somone expected to dominate,loma clearly in control and had gesrs to go through when needed,wd luke campbell great effort

Aye I'm surprised some people had it a close run thing, Campbell had success no doubt but although Lomachenko had spells of maybe too much feinting instead of punching I still thought he looked the boss at nearly all times, not his most dominant performance maybe but still a clear win IMO, a bit like Cordina/Gwynne earlier in the night, Gwynne was making rounds close but just doing enough to lose them as they say, I dont think we're seeing the best of Lomachenko at Lightweight, seems a shrewd move to move back down after the undisputed fight with Commey
