For me he needs to drop down and win a Euro title before stepping up again.

Think it would do Huey the world of good to move trainers , needs a fresh start nothing against his dad but he admitted he doesn't follow game plan /instructions and just can't see him changing now , soon as he moves up to fringe world level he will lose on points .

I think a change in trainer, a long time with a sports psychologist, a strength and conditioning coach, plus a dietician.
His strengths:
Chin
Height
Youth
Movement
His weaknesses:
Power
Aggression
Confidence
Punch variety
Engine

All the weaknesses can be rectified. Maybe that isn't enough to be a world champ right now, but it maybe in years to come.
In the meantime- win and defend the British, then try for the Euro and commonwealth.
Plenty of time, no rush.

I get the theory, but who’s going to pay for it?

Hughie can’t sell a ticket so no promoter will bankroll that in the hope of making some money in 3-5 years (which is unlikely to happen).

Hughies best asset was Tyson, and he hasn’t even got that since the fall out.

Hes Malik Scott with chin

He will easily outpoint all the C level fighters but will always loose to A levels. Maybe he should try fighting some B level ones :-P

I think you’ve missed out the key weakness - mentality.

When Hughie feels that the man opposite him carries a threat he spends large portions of the fight in typical sparring partner mode, flicking the jab whilst always keeping a half step out of range. When his opponent gets inside he holds, when they throw combinations he tucks up. 80% of his problems are between his ears but it’s likely to be pretty ingrained now.

The Kevin Johnson comparison is very accurate. He won’t stretch himself to win if it means taking risks.

All his weaknesses can not be rectified, that's cloud cuckoo land that.
He's a decent British/Euro level fighter at best, hasn't got the pop to keep world class oppo away and never will.
If there was a magic power well out there then every fighter would be dipping in it.
No disrespect - he's a good level fighter, but world level? Just forget it.

I thought Hughie showed improvement against Povetkin, who is still a world class boxer albeit at the back end on his career.

I would like to see them work on how he throws his right hand. It could be made more effective than when he continually bends it. It worked a treat against Sexton but if he set his feet and threw it straight down the middle sometimes it could make a lot of difference.

Hughie is a negative risk averse fighter, nothing will change that.

He can work on whatever he likes in the gym, it won't change his nature.

I think you make a very good point there when you say ........... IF THERE WAS A MAGIC POWER WELL OUT THERE , EVERY FIGHTER WOULD BE DIPPING IN IT ......... That is a very good point , and contributes to most of his weaknesses , his weeknesses , lack of aggresion , punch variety , taking any sort of chances , all spell out a lack of confidence , he's been taught from a young age , not to commit to run don't get hit ect ect , and his lack of power , takes away the confidence to say what sometimes you gotta say , and thats fook it lets have a go , you gave me yours now taste some of mine .

Which brings me to something i have always felt , if you don't have a good dig on you , then you should'nt turn pro , stay ameteur , you can run for 3 rnds but in the pro's you can't run all night and sooner or later you are gonna have to gain there respect . or they will walk through you
