Slight over reaction - the shot was late in all fairness it was a DQ...

For me the Ref is the one who mucked up , blatent punch landed whilst the boxer was down, he should of taken a point off and given a 5 minute rest to Edwards , if he couldn't of continued then it would of been discussed if it's a NC or a DQ win.
The fact the ref didn't do the correct thing led to the farce of last night.

The ref called it a win for Martinez and he should be going home the champ.

If the referee had DQ'd him there and then, ok. Even though, I'd still insist Edwards pulled a fast one.
Spot on.

I just hope this doesn’t set any precedents. Chances are we’ll have a lot more crying foul in future with calls for no contests left right and centre.
Good job the Buatsi fight happened beforehand otherwise Ryan Ford would have been calling out for an NC!

All a bit suspect ain’t it, but mainly a dunce ref f****ed up and shoulda sent faintin’ Charlie out to take his beating like a man, instead of allowing him to hang onto his paper crown while crouched on the floor.

Funny how no sign of Eddie and Mo heroically leaping into the ring in the name of justice after the Buatsi fight, after hapless Bob f****ed up again.

Adam smith and his astoundingly bad boxing team really are the pits.

Martinez was clearly thinking ‘Here, hang on chief — I've not landed a really good shot yet! BOOM! There you are — you can have your count now’.

Dirty beyond doubt, but for me it would've been an immediate final warning with a deduction and the full recovery window, like you say.

The ref is to blame for not knowing what was going on, if Edwards couldn't continue then it was a DQ surely ?

Changing the result was the right decision but how it was done was wrong. Sets a dangerous precedent

It's a matter of time until boxing has the kind of "diving" culture that football has. Both Ryan and Edwards tried it last night once they knew they couldn't win. Paid off for Edwards though since he's the matchroom guy.

Mauricio taking such action on his own makes me think that all the 'panels' and 'committees' are just pure bvllshvt.

I agree That was much worse than this. It’s all down to incompetent refereeing really. If the refs knew their sh1t we wouldn’t be talking about these stupid decisions.

It's an interesting debate, because on the one hand I think if you take this case in isolation it was a fine move, because it was a flagrant foul., but overall I don't think a guy like Maury should be able to just overturn things and change results if he feels like it.

It's a world title fight on a big bill, the ref is supposed to be quality and he either missed the punch (watching replays I don't think he did) or he didn't know the rules. So for me he mucked up

He shouldn't be. The BBBoC don't use video replay - he himself is quoted as saying the comissions themselves must decide to allow video replays.

He's entirely taken it upon himself to overturn it.

He also tweeted 2 days ago a picture of him and Hearn hanging out, he awarded him some plaque as a present from the WBC. So corrupt, cosying up to his mate and his fighter.

Martinez was dominating the fight, a bit like the way Khan was losing, imagine if that was called a no contest!

When you watch the various camera angles in the replay- the ref was right there!
It happened right in front of him.
Much like the Ward Kov fight.
Exactly like the Buatsi Ford fight prior.

He said it was a decision he made with the BBBofC.. who would have had a rep there anyway.

yeah. HE made the decision with the BBBoC. While it may have been the right decision, I don't think he should be making those types of calls unilaterally (within the WBC).

That shot was soooo consciously foul that I had time to scream “NOOOOOO!!” as Martinez wound up to throw it.

The Mexican would win anyway but imo it was a good decision (though referee did a mistake).

It was horrifically late and probly should of been a dq. Not a fan of how it was overturned but i think both fighters got lucky with a no contest there.
