I swear if he spoke better English, he'd be a media darling in the states. The dude has a warped sense of humor and is quite the character.

Did you see the way he was cutting up before the Bellew fight? He was cracking Bellew up.

Awful fight, would've preferred Takam. Sprong has beaten no one and usually fights chumps with 0 wins... and he's not even that big (220 lbs), basically a blown up crusier

Oh yeah what a boxing record he has, incredible, better than Whyte or AJ even. Fabulous, what a test

I can imagine a lot of Oleksandr Usyk’s supporters passionately defending Tyrone Spong’s heavyweight credentials, whilst failing to realise that the Ukraine pound-for-pounder (by his own admission) knows absolutely nothing about him.

This is a blatant mismatch!

This matchup is embarrassing garbage. Hell even Takam would have been a mismatch and this is 10x worse. Usyk vs. Spong would be like if Lomachenko moved up to 140 and fought Abner Cotto or some other total nobody. WTF is the point?

Remember when Usyk announced his moving up? He said he was going right at it with top contenders. I hope he gets his clock cleaned. We already have Fury. We don't need another cherry picking fraud.

Usyk doesn't strike me as a cherry-picker given his track record at CW. This seems like a shitty promoter at work.

I would think he has some say. I'll watch the highlights on youtube if it's spong.

It's not a heavyweight championship fight it's Usyk's very first fight in the heavyweight div. Spong is 14-0 with 13 KO's as a boxer and before that he had a fantastic 91-7 record as a kickboxer so what are you guys complaining about?

Spong's fight 2 days ago...or better yet watch The Beast's clip of just the KO punch above. Spong is a very dangerous puncher.

Mate, he was fighting a guy who'd just been KTFO in 1 round 2 fights before at middleweight, by a guy with 4 stoppages in 14 fights

Spong's best opponent was decent journeyman Ylato Perea, and he got badly hurt and only managed a split decision. Perea was just knocked out in 1 by Martin Bakole.

Yes, he was a very good kickboxer and has a very strong martial arts background, but in boxing he's nowhere near the same level. A guy like Fedosov would pound him.

Yeah you're right. I confused the two there in that fight - they do look pretty much alike - and I thought that Spong was the smaller one. OK, don't get mad at me, I'm not Usyk's manager or the matchmaker. I just want him to fight somebody, anybody. It's ten months since he fought Bellew. He'll fight this guy and then if all goes as planned his next fight will be a big one.

He's not a cherry picker, likely what he's dealing with is the massive loss of money from dazn in the American market and a lack of opponents looking to fight now. Very thin division, 100k would be a massive payday for spong.

Come on now oog, Usyk is not someone who I'd single out for deserving to get battered for cherrypicking. Look at his cruiser record at the fast tracking, the quality of opposition, and fighting in his opponent's backyard time and time again--even in Russia vs a Russian in the finals as a Ukranian. He also moved up to SHW and took on tough challenges in WSB.

I would certainly give him another chance before blasting him like that. Pretty much everyone has a soft fight or two moving up as well, and he initially was scheduled for someone far better. I really do not think he handpicked Spong, and he himself said he knew little of him. He already widely beat a much better HW in Hunter, so I doubt he'd want someone as lowly as Spong.

And I mean, even the guys near the top of the division have had some stinky opponents. Ruiz has pretty much entirely fought weak stuff aside from a few fights, you had Wilder and AJ fighting Eric Molina, and obviously Fury with his crap. In other divisions you see it too, a lot of the time even worse.

If Usyk deserves to be battered for cherrypicking and not challenging himself so does pretty much everyone

Usyk vs Bakole would be a nice HW debut for Oleksandr... Usyk vs Spong is garbage.

You're actually the dumbest poster on this forum. His record is toilet. He's fought no one. A lot of opponents have an amazing 0 wins on their record. I'd be unbeaten too
