Is Callum Smith Overated or Underated ? **POLL**

Post by SAPFO »

Where are we with Calllum Smith?

I think his ability is underrated. IIRC, people are always suggesting his fights will be a 'test'. He then goes and dispatches the opponent with relative ease.

Eddie don't seem too keen to push him, which suggests that he don't think Callum is financial draw, and can't Gove them what they want, so are JG & Callum 'over-rating' Callum's financial puling power? And this has led to the stall?

He needs to get himself into the WBC rankings & fight the winner of Direll vs Benevidez. Forget hanging around fort BJS & Canelo for now. Eddie is clearly up BJS arse for now so wont risk him.

Rated just fine overall I think. Clearly he's not been promoted right. Fair play the WBSS money was serious, but he should've taken off since then when he's basically stagnated totally.

He is the most proven of the current SMW division.
He blasted through a fresher Rocky in one round, it took Canelo 3.
Stopped Groves on his career best roll.
Won and defended the British.
Won the Euro
Won 2 world titles
Undefeated with a 73% KO record.
Is huge but always makes weight.
Is boxrec #1 by a large margin.

He isn't under or over rated. He is proven.

He got serious money for a very easy run in the WBSS. Braehmer pulling out and a kickboxer stepping in then an injured Groves.

Jury still out for me.

Obviously a talented fighter, but his best win is over a faded and injured Groves and even then it was fairly competitive until Groves decided he'd had enough.

A fight with Billy Joe would be a better indication.

What do you think most people put him at with those 7?

He gets too much credit for battering an over the hill Groves imo. The rest of his record isn't that impressive although he's probably the best in a fairly weak SMW division presently

I think he passes the eye test though. Big and skilled. Just needs the big fights to prove his worth.

At the moment it's over....he has 1 true world class win against a fighter who wasn't holding the ring belt....but he's now ring champion and talking like he's undisputed champion....i think all current champions will test him and show if he is under or over rated

None of the Smiths have the x factor. I can't put my finger on exactly why but they don't and never have. It makes promoting them very difficult irrespective of how good they were/are.

Callum is lucky that the tournament format popped up when it did and he took his chance brilliantly and made a fortune.

He wants toe big fights, that the issue. We wont know how good until he's in deep. I agree, his record is not a death row, but thats not his fault. Maybe he should do a DeGale & go & travel?
