he also looks like a lovely friendly guy in his interviews. You get the feeling you could have a pint with him. At the same time I would have no problem handing my wallet over if he demanded it,along with any other belongings as he does look like the kind of bloke you'd do well not to cross if you valued your health.

Joe was a strong amateur who won four Irish senior titles and boxed for his country. He gave Bobby Wells a great scrap in an England v Ireland international in Milton Keynes in January 1984, conceding masses of height and reach to super-heavyweight Wells but having a real go before he was stopped in the third round, having punched himself into a state of virtual exhaustion. The crowd loved him and cheered him out of the ring.
Built like a car park bollard, Joe was too short for the heavies but he was unable to make light-heavyweight and I know he got into some bother shortly afterwards, which may explain his four meagre fights as a pro, although he is a very easy guy to like - a proper gentleman Jim.

Just a big bloke who has the personality to carry off the " I'm a somebody " label at local fight nights.

Personally, I'd be more impressed by meeting someone like Mitch Green, James Tillis or Bonecrusher Smith than Joe Egan.

There are hundreds of blokes who say they did this and that in sparring, but you can't find their pro record anywhere !

Same when you are abroad on holiday. All the old boys you speak to from London knew the Krays. They havn't got the intelligence to realise that they are too young to have knocked about with em ! PLEBS.... :brick:

While of course Smith, Tillis and Green did much more than Egan and obv I get you would be more impressed to met them, but that doesn't mean you can put him in the category of the 1000's of blokes in the pub who knew the Krays!
What Egan did, he did, and he can be proud of it.
