On the back of controversy surrounding Charlie Edwards in London last weekend, the WBC has commented on the situation.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said: “The fight has to be done again. I feel for Julio Cesar and for Charlie as well.
“Because Charlie Edwards is a warrior who represents the best of the WBC inside and outside of the ring.
“We have a great relationship with him and his family. Julio Cesar was so fantastic that night at the O2 Arena in London. He was ready to become Champion, but there`s nothing more sacred than justice. So I feel strongly and I`m convinced that we did the right thing.
“Julio Cesar Martinez has taken it with pride and honor. Charlie Edwards has done so as well. Now it`s just a matter of waiting for the direct rematch and seeing what happens in the ring.”

Martinez stated: “Disappointed, but I fought the very best I could to the heights of my capacity. I had more than him on the night and I`ll be back with everything I`ve got, possibly at the end of October or in November on a card led by Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in Las Vegas.
“Prior to that, I`ll go back for more altitude training at the Otomi Center, in the mountains above Toluca!”
If Edwards decides to move up in weight, Martinez is expected to battle for the vacant title in his next outing.

Yeah Edwards will vacate and tbh, as much as he was obviously getting his pudendum kicked in, how much was due to obvious weight issues? And how much flak could he take for appearing to swerve a rematch, when for his own sake it is the right decision? (I mean, what else should he do, say, "Yeah I will struggle to make weight, be drained again, get smashed to sh!t just to keep the twitterazi happy"?)

If the money for the rematch is good, he could just take it, get smashed, take a knee after a few rounds, and get paid.
TBH, I feel when he dropped to a knee in their first bout, I had doubts that he would even e able to continue, but lucky for him, Martinez crippled him with another shot, and he thought, "I'll milk this."

Doubt this will happen to be honest. Was getting smacked pillar to post and he doesn't like the weight. I even tipped him to lose to the last fella tbh. Can't see much of a future for him on the world stage at any weight - Andrew Selby would have battered him on Saturday as well.

Not sure there was that much milking, it looked like genuine agony to me.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑05 Sep 2019, 07:59 If the money for the rematch is good, he could just take it, get smashed, take a knee after a few rounds, and get paid.

I don't blame Martinez too much though, a fighter in the heat of battle sees the ribcage open he doesn't look to see where the knees are.

To be honest I think this fight will happen Hearn will sacrifice Charlie on a show somewhere in the UK , He will probably want to use Martinez in the states /Dazn deal , Charlie has over achieved and even as a defending world champ hardly add old a ticket gf or the O2 .

He's lucky to still be holding that belt and make another payday from it.Floyd the snake wrote: ↑05 Sep 2019, 12:24 To be honest I think this fight will happen Hearn will sacrifice Charlie on a show somewhere in the UK , He will probably want to use Martinez in the states /Dazn deal , Charlie has over achieved and even as a defending world champ hardly add old a ticket gf or the O2 .
