Universum Back From The Dead
The all new Universum Box Promotion is back in business for real and have now signed a TV contract with ZDF.
It was with ZDF as TV partner that the "old" Universum grew to be one of the biggest promoters in the world. But in 2010 the TV contract expired and promoter Klaus Peter Kohl eventually sold the company to Waldemar Kluch, who got a few shows off the ground but it all ended in bankruptcy and a lot of dubious affairs.
However, the company was bought by former boxer and businessman Ismail Oezen-Otto and he has put together an interesting stable with brothers Robert and Artem Harutyunyan and James and Tony Kraft. Trainer for the team is former WBO lightweight champ Artur Grigoryan, who was trained by the legendary Fritz Sdunek during the "old" Universum days.
The first show with ZDF is scheduled for November 9 in Hamburg but the new Universum also stage a show September 7 also in Hamburg.

Germany was European boxing super power comparable to current UK, now they re meaningless and i doubt it will change. Robberies, fake title fights, padded records, especially sauerland is responsible for destroying the German scene

Truth. Never saw so many one-sided fights scored as SDs anywhere, including Las Vegas. Dates back to the early 1990s. And even fairly skilled fighters like Braehmer and Erdei were mostly fed cupcakes rather having them test themselves against top competitive oppositiondagilechia wrote: ↑13 Aug 2019, 09:08 Germany was European boxing super power comparable to current UK, now they re meaningless and i doubt it will change. Re: Universum Back From The Dead
I think the development of Gennady Golovkin was greatly slowed by the steady diet of scrubs and tomato cans that were fed to him by Universum in his early years as a pro. If Klaus-Peter Kohl had matched GGG more aggressively he could have been a world champ after 9-10 pro fights like Usyk or Rigondeaux. Universum kept him busy with 18 bouts in his first 3 1/2 years but the caliber of his opposition was sadly lacking.giacomino wrote: ↑13 Aug 2019, 20:40Truth. Re: Universum Back From The Dead
Dariusz Michalczewski became their sports director. One of the greatest examples of a fighter with huge potential who got his career wasted by beating no hopers rather than taking the challenge. He wouldn't beat Roy at least not prime Roy but his resume could be very impressive had he taken the challenges. But I dont Blame him he has earned big millions for all those mismatches.
Its not a reanimation or resurrection, its an exhumation of a dead body. Btw who will be their biggest Star? Tyron effing Zeuge? German scene is dead.

Some nice highlights from The Beast (as usual) but the list of fighters on that card clearly supports your claim that Universum is not "back from the dead". I was just checking out some BoxRec history to see how many good fighters Universum had when they were at the top of their game 15-25 years ago!!
After the fall of the Iron Curtain, Germany's geographic location at the crossroads of Eastern/Western Europe allowed the Germans to reap the benefits of much of the talent available after the Soviet bloc collapsed. Like Golovkin, Wlad & Vitali Klitschko + many other ex-amateur standouts from Ukraine, Poland, Russia, Hungary & Uzbekistan like Michalczewski, Erdei, Kotelnik, Chagaev, Povetkin, etc..
Guys from those ex-Soviet countries now like Loma, Usyk, Kovalev, Bivol, Gvozdyk, etc either fight in the U.S. or back in their home countries. So Germany's talent pool now lacks the ex-Soviet talent that built their "golden age of German boxing" in the 1990s and early 2000s!!
Re: Universum Back From The Dead
Yeah they bought the name and fight library and are looking to promote a green stable with big names from the library on ZDF...

Leon Bauer and Patrick Wojcicki back in action on Nov.9 in Hamburg

Rising Team Sauerland stars Leon Bauer (16-0-1, 9 KOs) and Patrick Wojcicki (13-0-1, 4 KOs) return to action on November 9 as both men look to further their World title ambitions with a victory at the Kuppel in Hamburg, Germany.
Bauer, the 21 year-old IBF Youth World Champion, faces German rival Toni Kraft (16-0-1, 4 KOs) in a hotly anticipated super middleweight showdown.
“I’m really looking forward to the fight and cannot wait to get back in the ring,” said Bauer. “I have many friends in Hamburg so it’s going to be a great atmosphere. We are both unbeaten so everyone can look forward to a spectacle.”
Kraft is equally excited and has implored Bauer not to find any excuses as he aims to prove he is the next German super middleweight king.
“I’m looking forward to November 9 as I want to show everyone who the upcoming champion is,” said Kraft. “These fights are what will make German boxing big again, so I hope Leon comes to fight and will not find any excuses.”
Wojcicki, the current IBF Intercontinental Champion, will meet Robert Swierzbinski (21-9-2, 3 KOs), an experienced Polish middleweight, who has previously shared the ring with current World Champion Chris Eubank Jr. and former World titleholders David Lemieux and Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam.
“I’m happy to get back in the ring,” said Wojcicki. “I am fighting an experienced operator who has faced World Champions before. It’s a good test but I want to go all the way to the top and Robert Swierzbinski will not be able to stop me!”
“I’ve already boxed three World Champions in my career,” said Swierzbinski. “I expect to have no problems with Patrick Wojcicki. I’m certain I’ll be the winner!”
Promoter Nisse Sauerland has praised both match ups, but is backing his fighters to get the wins and steal the show at the Universum event in Hamburg.
“Just one week after Leon Bunn faces Enrico Koelling for the IBF International title in Koblenz, German fight fans have another exciting grudge match to look forward to with Leon Bauer versus Toni Kraft,” says Sauerland.
“It will be a good fight but Leon is the technically superior boxer and he will do everything he can to take the decision out of the judges’ hands.
“The same applies to Patrick Wojcicki. Although he’s facing a very experienced opponent, he has big ambitions for the coming year. He’s already number 6 with the IBF and we will be aiming for the World title soon.
“Leon and Patrick are two of the future stars of German boxing and I expect them to steal the show on November 2 in Hamburg!”
All the action from Kuppel in Hamburg will be broadcast live on ZDF in Germany.

Two of Germany’s most famous promotional companies Team Sauerland and Universum will co-promote a show for the first time in history on January 25th in Hamburg. All the action from the “Work Your Champ” Arena will be broadcast live in Germany on SPORT1.
The Sauerland fighters are IBF #9, WBC #15 super welterweight Abass Baraou (8-0, 5 KOs) and female featherweight Sophie Alisch (5-0, 1 KO). The recently revived Universum brings IBO international super lightweight beltholder Artem Harutyunyan (8-0, 5 KOs), Robert Harutyunyan (8-0-1, 3 KOs) and James Kraft (16-0-1, 9 KOs).
Sauerland Event was founded by Wilfried Sauerland in 1978. He has largely passed the reigns over to his sons Kalle and Nisse Sauerland.
Universum Box-Promotion was founded by Klaus-Peter Kohl in 1984. After losing a major TV contract, Kohl sold Universum in 2011. The company eventually ceased operations in 2013. It was restarted in 2019 with Ismail Özen-Otto at the helm.
Both Sauerland and Kohl are in the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
