Fury is most entertaining when he takes guys lightly.
I dunno if you’re British or not but we got him on free TV for years... i dunno if every single one of his fights was televised i’m sure i’be seem them all.
He always used to have a tear up. All his fights were so much fun until Peter reigned him in. The myth of him being boring is all from people who didn’t follow his whole career. He’s boring when he has to be, but tonight he was entertaining because he wanted a fight rather than a boxing match
116-112 Fury is the proper card. Naturally a slew of nuts on Boxing247 have Wallin winning. Scoring with emotion is big over there. No way Wallin won 7 rds, not a chance. He only won 1 round after the 5th, which was the 12th.
But yes IF Fury doesnt have gazillions of dollars behind...that cut gets it stopped as early as Round 4. It was that bad.

Agree, he was a very fun fighter in the earlier days of his career, people may've missed that if they think he's always been boring. He used to be as much an inside fighter as anything.

That Fury wasn't stopped on those cuts demonstrates perfectly how the marquee fighters are given more slack than opponents.

100% fact.
If reversed this fight would of been stopped early

Exactly. He took the guy lightly. Except for the shot from Wilder, all his other risky moments throughout his career have stemmed from complacency.
No doubt if that cut had been caused by a butt, within a couple rounds the officials would've decided Fury's too important to risk his health and safety and they'd have stopped it, gone to the cards and preserved his title to let him go on to a bigger defense next time. Fights have definitely been stopped on lesser cuts, and that big old nasty gash could even go on to have bigger ramifications than delaying the Wilder rematch.
116-112 Fury for me. Great toughness on both counts. If Wallin would have had a bit more left he would have dropped Fury in the 12th. Wouldn’t have changed the cards but it would have been dramatic.
"For Tyson to box like that from the off, I knew there was a problem. There was no snap to the punches, he lost his shape, the power was not there, his feet were coming together, it was an untidy effort.
"His will to win is unprecedented but he made hard work of it from the off. How does a man like Otto Wallin, with limited ability, get that close with a piercing jab.
"Tyson got cut, he thought he was on borrowed time and against anyone else he probably would've got knocked out - there was nothing right about it."
On the two cuts around the right eye, John Fury adds: "An injury like that could finish a career, he might need surgery on that."
"It's the worst I've seen from Tyson," said John Fury. "I'm proud of how he has mauled his way through but he has to be honest and say things are not right. For a man to be in that condition after eight weeks camp it looked like he had nothing after round two.
"His strength and power went tonight, he was as weak as a kitten from the first round. At 18 stone 1, I've warned him and warned him. He is a 19-stone fighter.
"If I had my way, the lot [Tyson's team] would be gone. If they keep that team that will be his career [gone]."
That was an extremely suspenseful fight. Insane that it went the distance.
Wallin seems pretty solid. Hard to judge how good he is, given that the cut distorted everything. But I'd like to see him against someone in the #15-20 ballpark like Hunter, Breazeale, Joyce, Washington, etc.

Even if he lost it, it must been a good egoboost for Wallin to hold his own against Fury. I hope that he do gets some good fights after this.

Tyson's dad was not thrilled.

I think Fury's old man summed it up well. He easily could have lost that fight due to the cut, but also was closer than the cards look. Its a good thing it wasn't Ortiz he was fighting. This is the newer, fresher, in shape Fury Wilder is supposed to be afraid of?
I think he looked flat at the start, like he wasn't really in the mood for a fight. He gave a big sigh before the first bell as if to say, OK let's get this over with.
If you come into a fight with that mindset then more times than not you're going to set yourself up for a tough night.
That's the big worry with Fury, being able to sustain a positive mindset over a longer period. People that understand depression will know that it's difficult to predict how you are going to feel from one day to the next.
A good fight. The Gypsy King won comfortably, the 116 was too little score for him. But Wallin fought well. It's all just about the gap in the class. Fury fought wise. He was outboxing Wallin before he got cut and after that he established a more rough tactics with great inside work. In some of the later rounds Wallin was hurt and surviving. A good fight for Fury, he wasn't just working on a heavy bag.

Cut on a light punch. Strange. Maybe the glove was scraped? Who knows? Tough to fight with one eye. Plowed through it anyway.
He said it was something like the inside of the glove scraped his eye.
