Steve Conway -v- Attila Kovacs (this Saturday?)

This has been up on the schedule for quite a while now.

After beating Kotai twice (the latter for the IBO title) Conway appears to be making the trip to Hungary to fight Kovacs (18-1) on Saturday.

Kovacs has a pretty decent record, likewise punch, and of course, homeground. I'm dreadful at predictions at the best of times, but I'm not sure what to make of this one at all.

Remember, the IBO doesn't impose mandatories, so in many respects this is Conway's decision. I'm sure he'll get quite handsomely paid, but other than that, can he come away with another good scalp at light middle?

I have never seen him fight but judging by his(Kovac's) record this would be a 50/50 fight on neutral ground . However with this being in Hungary the advantage has to go to Kovacs as Conway certainly isn't going to stop him .

Kovac has 12 KO's in 18 wins but when you look at the opponents he has stopped they have all been stopped before or after (except the guy with one defeat) . So I don't think his power will be too much of an issue .

I narrow decision win for Kovac is my prediction .

He can't The IBO don't have mandatories so what they do to make sure the opponents are decent is they have to be in the IBO's top 30 . Since the IBO's ratings system is computerized and not hand picked like most other organisations this means he has to fight a fairly decent fighter as IBO's computer rankings are fairly good .

Kovacs is ranked #20th in their rankings .

Does anyone have access to this tonight? The Kovacs fight is over, and Hungary must be 2 hours ahead, so must be on soon. If anyone would be able and willing to give a very rough update on things I'd be much obliged

Funny that the best ranking system is put behind the big beltst and their mockeries of rankings and mandatories.

according to the results here it seems he's lost by decision .

The judges had it 110-117 , 110-117 and 111-116 all in favour of Kovacs . Conway was deducted a point in round 9 for butting .

Oh well, not the end of the world. Hopefully, with the pair of Kotai wins but not being a renound puncher, he can continue to get some nice fights around Europe. Maybe he could get a shot at the British title too, although don't know how he'd fare/fair? anyway, against Moore etc.

What is happening with Moore by the way? Is he waiting for the Macklin fight to be rearranged? Macklin fought on the Muttley card so I presume he's fine now.

Moore fights Macklin on the 21st July.

Steve Wood posts on Boxingtalk, and he said the fight is provisionaly set for that date, they are waiting for Sky Sports acceptance.

I think Matty wins late.
