I think it was by far the best outing by Valuev.

Still a very uninteresting fight.

Glad to see Asikinen winning the euro title. Makes it all a bit more interesting when good boxers appear from the "smaller" countries.

They talked about a rematch so it might happen. The money in finnish boxing is very small (I think they had 1 or 2 televised cards the last couple of years) so Asikainen will have to make his money abroad. But I hope this will make some interest in finnish pro boxing, since they always had some good amateurs.

He sounded a lot better than alot of the other artists that have performed "live" (I actually think Keating was live)

I can't quite picture Ronan Keating being quite the perfect match for 300lb, anvil-faced Valuev's ring entrance, but then what do I know. As I speak there's rumour that Petula Clark will be taking care of butterbean's next ring entrance.

He sang Goo Goo Doll's "Isis", it was more slow than the original. Decent song/performance, way better than the usual dance crap.

Sylvester vs Asikainen had 4 mill viewers (16.7 share) while Valuev vs Beck had 5.52mill viewers (28.1 share) on ARD in Germany.

Not the 1st, but 4th and 1st in 42 years. Previously there has been 3 champs : Elis Ask in lightweights, Risto Luukkonen twice (Flys and bantams) + Olli Mäki in light welters. Olli's only son Pekka Mäki is Asikainen's trainer.

But Finland has had its own Mike Tyson for years, just now he is in parliment. You may remember him as Ludvig Borge from the WWF.
Total fascist violent bastard, but made the Finns take an intrest in boxing. I saw him fight once while I was out there (TV not live) and he had no skill just big thumping downward movements.

Great job on the round by round as always from Freiheit

Good to see the beast get the job done and early as well. I am glad he is training with Uli Wegner as hopefully this will improve his technique (his overhand right is poor). Beck shouldn't really have been in there for a "world" title but we could debate this of course for ever, that's boxing for you and Valuev did his job.

Was a bit surprised that Sylvester lost, remember seeing him in with Di Giacomo and he looked ok but not see the Finn fight before, well done to him

I was really impressed... I think he could beat ANYBODY in Europe (yes, I mean Sturm, Abraham, and Eastman).

I just hope he doesn't just make EBU title defences and gets some real exposure. He could be a star, he's a good looking lad with a good fighting style and some real power. Just hope his nationality means he is frozen out of the big picture.

That could have been the KO of 2006... it was very impressive.

He definitely looked very impressive. Nice style as you mentioned, and some pop.

Yes it was a good performance. Maybe something they can try here??!! (though with a differnet artist!)

I thought it was funny the way the song was so gentle and as it was being performed the huge, monstrous Valuev ascended on some lift; like some giant frankenstein's monster.......

I must say I have always thought Valuev would achieve someting - saw him at York hall years ago - he looked coordinated and could move for a huge man.

He is fairly fast - not a huge puncher, but with his size it will hurt.

Beck looked like a child next to him. Valuev doesn't seem hard to hit considering, but surely that Easter-Island head can take a dig?
