Jose Uzcategui vs. Denis Douglin - September 21, 2019

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Jose Uzcategui is ready to make a run towards another title reign.

The former super middleweight title claimant is locked in for a crossroads bout with divisional trialhorse Denis Douglin, with the two to collide September 21 atop a PBC on FS1 telecast. The bout headlines a planned tripleheader, live from Pioneer Events Center in Lancaster, Calif.

Boxing Scene has learned that the show will also include rising prospect Chris Colbert (12-0, 4KOs) in a 10-round super featherweight clash, with the opponent still being finalized. The third leg of the tripleheader will feature Puerto Rico’s Thomas Dulorme (24-3-1, 16KOs) in a welterweight clash versus Los Angeles native Terrel Williams (18-0, 13KOs).

Uzcategui (28-3, 23KOs) will fight for the first time since conceding his 168-pound title to unbeaten and still reigning champ Caleb Plant this past January in L.A. Their bout serves as the most watched boxing event ever, though also brought to a close Uzctagui’s 10-month stay as a divisional titlist.

The 28-year old knockout artist from Mexico by way of Venezuela claimed his belt in his second try, coming in a revenge fueled stoppage win over Andre Dirrell last March. Dirrell’s brother Anthony fights one week later, defending his title versus unbeaten David Benavidez.

A win by Uzcategui won’t necessarily guarantee him an immediate title fight but at least allows him to reestablish himself as a divisional threat.

Douglin (22-6, 14KOs) enters the bout having won two straight since suffering back to back losses on the PBC circuit. The 31-year old southpaw fights for the first time since a stoppage win over Saul Roman last November.

The event will mark the first Fox Sports telecast following the start of the National Football League (NFL) regular season. PBC’s lucrative long-term pact with the platform reaped major benefits through cross-promotion, enjoying favorable ratings for its first two Fox primetime cards as well as the aforementioned Plant-Uzcategui topped FS1 car that served as the first show of the rebranded PBC on FS1 series.

More of the same figures to apply to this card, which will gain promotional impressions during NFL preseason and regular season coverage. It will also serve as a prelude to the next Fox Sports Pay-Per-View event one week later, when Errol Spence and Shawn Porter collide in a welterweight unification bout at L.A.’s Staples Center.
