Hopefully, Usyk just does his job without any other injuries and fights someone better soon.

Massive step back in class but coming of injury and first time in a long time at heavyweight, I don't hate this if they get him back out quick.
He is next mandatory so I'd love to see them put him on the aj Ruiz undercard to hype that up. Quick turn around but doable with an easy win here.

Thanks. I set up the fight for him because it's the best we could get, and a lot of people think it will be a good one. Hopefully the next fight I make for him will make you even happier. We're working on it even now. It will be sensational.

I bet it is pretty hard to find opponents for Usyk.

He is huge risk for anyone. Not that much reward for beating him at the moment. Bit like going against the champ but no belt or huge purse on the line.

I hope he gets that mandatory shot soon. I think he has good chance of winning against anyone in the division :box:

Or you could say this is the perfect time to fight him.

Get him early before he acclimatises to the weight class, and your own ranking will rocket up there if you beat him.

The difference between the size of average HW and cruiser is not that big.

Spong for example is shorter than Usyk. He is maybe 10lbs heavier. Not that much different from what Usyk is used to fighting.

Sorry that's not what I meant. I was implying the super heavies of the division should be jumping at the chance to fight him before he finds his feet at the weight

That he is only looking at fighting small heavy weights seems like a deliberate choice by Usyks camp

McCaskill-Farias II added to DAZN's Oct. 12th show

Press Release

Jessica McCaskill will defend her WBA and WBC 140-pound titles against old foe Erica Farias at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago on Saturday October 12th, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK. McCaskill (7-2 3 KOs) ripped the WBC crown from Farias (26-3 10 KOs) last October, putting in a then career-best performance to dethrone the Argentine in her first defense. She went on to add the WBA crown in her next fight in May, arguably surpassing that win over Farias with another mix of guts and skill unifying the titles against another Argentinian in Anahi Sanchez.

Chicago’s McCaskill has voiced her desire to rematch undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor and also face seven-weight ruler Amanda Serrano, but Farias is determined to gain revenge in her first fight since defeat in Chicago.

“I’m delighted to have the chance to defend my titles back at the Wintrust Arena,”
said McCaskill. “It was a great night there when I beat Erica first time around. I know she will be determined to win her title back but I feel I am a better fighter since that first fight and I can’t wait to show that.

“It’s amazing to be in this position and we have a lot more goals that I want to reach, there’s more hard work to put in and more to come. Female boxers need to keep their level of professionalism up, keep training hard, take no days off. Female boxing is volatile, and you can get a call to fight any day, we’d often hear ‘I haven’t been in the gym’ and stuff like that. The fans are there, they want to watch great women fight and promoters want to put the fights on, so we must be ready to fight, and I always am.

“There are a lot of names that we want to mark off the list. Amanda Serrano won on Saturday, we’ve talked to her team and I think she’s done a lot for female boxing and I would love to share the ring with her. McCaskill-Taylor 2 is something that we want and there’s the other belts out there too so there’s a lot that we can build towards and target over the next year or so, but I am fully focused on Erica and October 12th.”

“I am happy to have the chance to come back to Chicago and fight Jessica again,”
said Farias. “The last fight was close and I have been waiting for a shot at winning the title back – I am coming to Chicago to take back what is mine.”

McCaskill and Farias clash on a night of boxing on October 12th in Chicago, headlined by former undisputed cruiserweight king Oleksandr Usyk making hisheavyweight debut against unbeaten Tyrone Spong.

I do not like this BS with Usyk at all. Spong and then a title shot? Ridiculous.

Tomasz Adamek…...Golata….Olympian Jason Estrada.....Areola....Big Mike Grant....Vinney Maaddalone….Kevin McBride......Vitaly.

That is how you jump to HW from being CW champ and get a title shot. Adamek would still kick Spong's arse today.

To be fair Usyk is much better than Adamek and cleaned out the CW division much more thoroughly.

Spong is a world class kickboxer. Truly elite. He’s got brass balls stepping into a boxing ring with Usyk. Good Lord.

Not to mention none of those fighters would qualify anyone for a title shot.

Less than 600 tickets remaining.

Spong has good hands for a big guy and nadty power if you let him land combos. His chin is average though. He needs pacing too or can end up holding and looking sloppy... Fighting only in short bursts. Tyrone needs to land big and quick imo. Drag Usyk in a sloppy quick war and hope for the best. Otherwise Usyk badly outworks him in the last two tiers.

Usyk’s heavyweight debut against a cruiserweight ! Have to give Usyk a bit of leeway due to the injury , but let’s keep it real, Spong isn’t a naturally heavyweight.

He was fighting in 79kg fights when he was 21. So that tells you a bit about his natural size .

Draw your own conclusions about the weight gain.

Yeah it sucks that Spong isn't even a real HW... Someone like Bakole would have been a much better opponent for Usyk's debut.
