They give Saunders an absolute cupcake to fight for the paper WBO belt and now this? Doesn't sound like he has any interest in stressing himself. Although to be fair, the WBO rankings are beyond pathetic

Canelo rejected one guaranteed opportunity to face Saunders.

And Billy Joe signed two contracts to face GGG but it was the Kazakh who refused to face the Brit.

If you think I’m lying, then please challenge me and call me out accordingly.

Irrespective he can do better than this if it is true. GGG, Canelo, Eubank Jr, Ryder, Smith, Plant, Truax or even Rocky Fielding are all more credible and perfectly acceptable fights. Surely he can get one of them no?

I figure the undercard bouts in BJS and Haney will be showcase fights for the two so the no boxing fans get to see impressive outings from them.

Didn’t they face better opposition for more money though?

I have no doubt Saunders fancies challenging himself, as evident by his promotional move. His problem is his negative style and lack of personality/lack of following. Not sure pissing about on the undercard of two YouTube influencers is going to change that, but he’ll earn a few quid I suspect.

My remarks were aimed at the person (not you I might add) that naively claimed that Billy Joe Saunders wasn’t interested in “stressing himself”.

The Brit tried to make fights with the likes of Canelo, Golovkin (twice), Callum Smith etc. and none of those guys would face him.

There are other guys that have previously and openly admitted to rejecting opportunities to face Billy Joe and they include the likes of Demetrius Andrade, David Lemieux and Chris Eubank Jr.

Saunders already had a fight lined-up to face James DeGale, but his MSAC suspension scuppered that bout. He also agreed to face Avtandil Khurtsidze (a fighter he was expected to lose against and was accused of ducking), but the Georgian then withdrew from the fight.

And let's not forget, Rohan Murdock is the second highest-rated title challenger in the WBO's rankings. The fighter that is rated above him, Erik Bazinyan, is currently suspended and there aren't any impressive names in the top-ten that would give Saunders any credibility.

If Billy Joe Saunders ends up engaging in multiple disappointing WBO title defences against lacklustre opposition, it won’t be because he’s unwilling to face anyone half-decent!

People enjoy criticising Billy Joe Saunders and that’s clearly their prerogative to do so, since everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they aren’t entitled to their own facts. And it’s clear that for whatever reason, the Brit has been ducked on numerous occasions.
