I loved the bit where he told the doctor that his eye that had swollen shut might heal within the remaining 90 seconds

It wasn't swollen shut. It was in a spasm. Herb was hoping it would settle down by the 5 minute mark so the doc could check his eye. Probably a scratched retina.

I don't feel Yair was overplaying the aftermath. He had a main event spot in his home country. When you factor in the amount of time and money spent on both sides, it's got to be terribly upsetting. Apparently Stevens spent a substantial amount of his own money for him, his family, and his team to live and train in Mexico for this fight.

You get a warning first. It was incredibly unfortunate. But you can't change the process of reffing because the first offense ends a fight as a NC.

I thought Herb handled the situation perfectly.

So if you're losing a fight just scratch the other guys eye out and get a NC?

Surely deliberate fouls that result in the fight ending are DQs? That looked rather deliberate to me, what was Yair doing with that hand... it sure wasn't a jab.

Didn't look deliberate to me. Looked as if he was reacting to a punch he thought Stevens was setting to throw. Not in Yair's character to pull something like that anyhow. Just like it's not Stevens character to look for a way out of a fight. Just an unfortunate event.

Hes accomplished something Frankie has desperately wanted and been unable to do. Not a shot at Edgar, but Frankie or Faber would love to swap resumes with conor.
I 100% disagree with you,the only thing frankie or faber would love to swap with connor is the bank balance, frankies resume is better than connors, what frankie done was compete at a weight were it like his walking round weight, its like connor fighting woodley at 170 beating him then staying at that weight, connor won titles but never defended one of them. Frankie is a better fighter is a better human and has a better resume imo, frankie has fought everyone and always defended his title.
Nothing to disagree with, it's a fact bro.

Whats fact? That connor won titles at two different weight classes? Frankie won the title and defended it regained it defended it and has beaten better opposition than McGregor now that is fact and at a weight class were he was the smaller man 99% of the time, now can connor say this? No. This isnt me hating on McGregor its me stating facts.

I think Stephens would have knocked Yair out cold. If that fight would have played out normally without an eye poke.

It's not like Yair can fall back on his grappling like Zabit could when things were getting tough against Stephens.

Frankie's dream is titles in 2 weight classes. That's a fact. Faber's dream is a UFC title. That's a fact. Rate them how you want, Edgar and Faber dream of doing what conor has done.

Yair is a good example of the worthlessness of UFC rankings. What did he ever do to be ranked #7 in the division? He has a flashy exciting style but has never beaten a serious contender and even his biggest win (K-Zombie) was a hail mary miracle KO in the last second of the fight. Ranking him over proven guys like Emmett, Stephens, and Kattar is completely unjustified.

This isn't boxing fellas. The MMA community understands what happened. This type of thing happens a lot. It's just usually the opponent poked can continue within the 5 minute allowance.

I don't watch MMA much, though have trained quite a bit of it. I find him entertaining to watch and extremely gifted, but totally understand that he is being matched ridiculously carefully and tailored to his attributes. I totally get why this would frustrate the life out of hard-core fans. It will be interesting to see if he can avenge his defeat.

That's being generous. He is great at point fighting. A good wrestler with decent striking acumen will expose him pretty badly.
