how far can you go?

Post by rhino222 »

how far can/has a boxer go/gone without the backing of a big time promoter. has anyone been loyal enough to their grass roots and made it to the very top by being their own man.

my example would be the haye/booth combo. they remained free agents and piggy backed some good promoters. they refused 'options' deals etc and shook the world. but haye was an amateur sensation.........so he had the momentum the moment he turned over.

but has anyone gone from absolute grass roots to silk suits?

Haye/Booth is one of the best examples you’re gonna get. They fought under co-Promotions with different promoters. They fought on every channel they could.

Overall. Did well.

Fascinating question and I'd be very interested to see examples of this where the fighters were not decorated amateurs

Mike Trainer, Ray's lawyer did a lot of his renegotiating. Ray is one of the few top boxers to leave the sport with his brains and money intact.

Hey guys. F*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck

See what I'm doing there? Reads a hell of a lot better than Fornicate doesn't it which just sounds f*cking stupid.

Please everybody adopt this typing method so that I can quit reading that embarrassingly stupid bit of censorship.

Interested to see what happens with Jack Bateson. Still being promoted by his Dad seemingly. Surprised he's not been picked up by one of the big two. Especially so considering he was a Sky ambassador at one point. I think he could go beyond British level, but will need TV exposure before long you'd imagine.

Lee Haskins never had big promotional backing but late in his career won a World title and got 2 defences on sky and sky box office.

He’s fighting on the Josh Warrington bill in a few weeks. Boxed on Warrington-Selby, too. He, and his dad, sell a few tickets.

With the greatest respect to Lee, I don't exactly think he had TV promoters kicking his door down after the Broadhurst 1 snoozefest.

For balance though, Broadhurst 2 in the Prizefighter final was a cracker. And that was the Prizefighter a few of us Boxrec members 'organised' on here, got some boxers up for it, and then put it to Hearn on twitter, who then took our ideas, and like the peacock he is, done it his way, and left out our own Londonirish, who was well up for it & in training.

Didn't the American lad Sean O'Grady go the entire career managed and promoted by his dad?
