Anthony Dirrell vs David Benavidez

Post by handsofstone »

Dirrell makes the first defence if his WBC Super Middleweight title against former champ Benavidez on the Spence/Porter unification card on Sky this weekend, interesting fight, neither guy been the most active but considering their Haymon fighters who can be surprised? Dirrell coming off the close TD win over Yildirim to win the title, a lot of people thought he lost that fight but not me although it was def close and he made things hard for himself by trying to fight it out with Yildirim instead of trying to box

Ive usually zero tolerance for drug cheats but considering Benavidez was stripped for coke I'll cut him some slack as its hardly performance enhancing, last time out he blew away Love on the Spence/Garcia card, I know he had 2 tough close fights with Gavril but I never seen either as they weren't shown over here

Still I think even though Anthony isn't as mentally weak as Andre and has shown toughness before I still think Benavidez will take him apart down the stretch, he might hang on to last the distance but I can see Benavidez finishing the man in control, if I was to bet i'd go with a Benavidez stoppage though

- Any of us can misstate the facts or miss a prediction, but save for your Benavidez prediction, time to reorient your thinking.

The only Haymon fighter is Dirrell who is trained by the deplorable sucker punching Leon Lawson. As sorry a combo as this is, it's an apt matching threesome. Sampson Lewkowiz however it spelled is the Benavidez promoter and I see no change in his mgr status.

My recollection is the kid got popped for coke out of competition, so it's not like he got popped for ninnygrams of stuff that couldn't grow a single muscle of a gnat the usual suspects like to rant about.

Peruvians chew coca leaves to enhance their abilities to carry out their daily lives in a rigorous high altitude environment, so in competition at the correct dosage cocaine would yield a massive performance advantage over a ninnygram of Clen...Duh!

Kid lives in a contaminated environment self trained by his father and lucky to have gotten this far, so hopefully can keep it together for a run of glory.

That boxing and the fans have allowed the Boys of BALCO to further trash a sport already in disrepute in allowing the Leon Lawsons a place within speaks volumes about their character and/or lack of intelligence.

When are USADA/VADA and that horrid BBbc organization going to be transparent and held accountable?

The historical answer is NEVER, as in nevermore. Their stink is just fine with them.

He's quoted a few of my posts in the Boxing History section and I never have a clue what in gods name he waffling on about, he's clearly thinks himself a bit of a wordsmith and who knows maybe he's too smart for the average Boxrec poster but in all honesty I just think he's a bit of a helmet bless him

Benavidez stops a busted up and fvcked Dirrell in the 9th to become champ, the corner stopped the fight after Dirrell was giving all the signals that he was done for the night, he was cut bad from a punch in around the 5th I think it was, a slice opened up above the right eye which the doc inspected a few times, surprised it wasn't stopped TBF it was pretty gruesome but after Fury's the other week maybe not so surprising

Dirrell was brave and tried to stick and move and had some success but Benavidez was massive and certainly too big for Dirrell who found it harder and harder to keep him off each passing round, Benavidez is slow footed and plodding but he just kept walking Dirrell down and was getting to him more and more, he never showed much of the fast hands he has but come the 7th round, Dirrell was a mess and Benavidez looked well on the way for the finish, he was landing the right hands, dug in some sickening lefts to the body which visably took the wind out of Dirrell, by the 9th round Dirrell was practically running away from Benavidez and Benavidez was putting a beatdown on him, no surprise to see the corner throw the towel, the ref was on the verge of stopping it himself

Good win for Benavidez and first time Dirrell's been stopped but he's a bit reliant on his size and strength, a bit like Munguia, can see him being found out when facing the other top guys at Super Middle

Good fight.

Benavidez has great hand speed , but seemed content to walk down Dirrell and it worked to be fair, but he can look a lot more dynamic.

I'd love to see Benavidez v Callum Smith and fans should be beating the drum for the powers that be to match up these two in a unification.
