Led Zepplin have very few 'heavy' songs. I think a lot was borrowed from them, but they were not heavy metal (not fast enough, very little distortion). Other bands that have a better clain are Alice Cooper, Ramones, Hawkwind/Motorhead, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. It only really moves into the realms of today's understanding when you get into the early 80s and the advent of Thrash metal with Metallica, ACDC, Slayer and Iron Maiden. In fact ACDC would be a good call for the first because they started in the early 70s.

Ageed, "Heavy-Metal" in it's earlier definition was STILL Hard Rock, you know, when Rock music was still good...

Led Zepplin were excellent and serious muscians, unlike many of the affore mentioned 'Heavy Metal' (newer definition) bands - RUBBISH...

Hats off to AC/DC though, they were a hard driven 'rock/heavy metal' band and among the last, in the 'proper' definition of the term. Not what it has come to mean - SHITE!

Sharon (who is annoying in the extreme) should do the decent thing and tell Ozzy to pack it in. He can barely get through an hour set these days. For some reason the fans still love seeing him on stage. He is the Evander Holyfield of the rock music scene and his last 'covers' album was complete shite and sold about 5 copies over here.

This could spawn a new thread. Good shout. I'd say he is the Mike Dokes of the scene...if Dokes was still fighting.

Ozzy is a pathetic sight, it's truly embarrasing watching a raddled old man bellowing 'rock and rooooooooooooool' and even doing that badly. Poor old sod.

Mind you, sure he's not thinking that when he's counting his gold bullion at the end of the tour.

Yeah, Shawn Ryder's head looked like a mouldy old potato these days. He's really let himself go to seed, he's only about 40 as well. Bez looks pretty much the same as he ever did.

Saw a picture of Pete Doherty gurning like a mofo the other day. Terrible state.

However, the most destroyed of them all still breathing (is he?) must be Shane Macgowan of The Pogues.

Yes, McGowan is in a frightful state, his teeth look like a wee miniature stonehenge.

Keith Richards, though undoubtedly grizzled, is still in good enough shape to climb coconut trees, even if he is falling out of them. Still, must be used to being out of his tree.

Even though Ozzy struggles to perform on stage he seems fine when doing normal tv interviews, he goes way over the top on The Osbournes for the ratings. MacGowan on the other hand is another story.

80's Ozzy and when he was in Black Sabbath Rocked! :TU:

Are most you guys old timers or something to have started a Sharon Osbourne thread since someone mentioned Shag and her in the same sentence! :o

Zep's cool too, not much into AC/DC though.

You guys lack some Death Metal. :P

Sharon Osbourne may be a bitch but it's her hard nosed attitude that turned the Osbournes into a multi million dollar making machine. She was the one who negotiated the MTV deal and the rest and is very smart i'd say.

In doing so she alientaed the fans who put her in the position to do that and wrecked her husband's reputation

She probably did but why would she care about that ? Her family is rich, and being the stubborn person she is she is just going to say fornicate them.

If you write a song about doing it you may be able to sell it to some Death Metal band and make a few ££££. :TU:
