Sam Soliman, Tureano Johnson and Jack Culcay are all guys I've heard of, and watched fight.

Soliman had seen better days, but was a solid contender at one time. Johnson and Culcay are lower echelon fringe contenders now. I mean they're not huge wins, but wins like that are the reason why he's ranked...and I'm sure an extensive amateur background.
It's the only reason he's ranked. None are really notable and one's am background shouldn't be considered when being ranked in the pros, unless it's off the charts, like Loma. His close loss to Jacobs is his only "notable" performance. Doesn't mean he's a bad fighter, just replying to the poster.
Johnson was a ranked contender not long ago. Losing to Derevyanchenko is probably why he's not still.

I guess I'm going to have to upgrade wins over Johnson and Culcay to awe inspiring.
Unlike Soliman they actually walked to the ring on two good legs when they faced Derev, so that's something noteworthy.
Soliman had name value, but little else. Johnson and Culcay are definitely his best 2 wins. The loss to Jacobs is a more meaningful performance than either of them, but he's a legit fringe contender at least based off of what he's done.

It all depends on how the age and the 'new style' will affect G.

GGG wins by decision in 12. Derevyan is too mobile and skilled to get plugged.

Golovkin by mid/late KO after an entertaining fight or UD by 116-112, 117-111 type decision.

Yes, both questions will be answered shortly.

Is GGG really talented enough to assimilate a radical change of style this late in his career? In any case I'm glad he ditched Sanchez and his predictable style. The top guys are so close
that nuances could make all the difference.

Got to also say Derevyanchenko looks confident and in great shape too.

But then so does Golovkin.

Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin needed two attempts to make the 170-pound limit for the IBF second day weigh-in this morning for his fight tonight on DAZN against Sergiy ‘The Technician’ Derevyanchenko. Golovkin (39-1-1, 35 KOs) weighed in at 170.2 lbs on his first weigh-in try, and he then stripped down and made the weight at 170 lbs. For his part, Derevyanchenko successfully made weight.

Derev has exactly zero notable wins, did not look good in his last fight, will be 34-years-old in a few weeks, had 400+ amatuer bouts and 24 fights in the world series of boxing which should count on his professional record. That would put him at 36-2 and he would still have zero notable wins.
People worry about GGG's age but Derev isn't much younger and has a lot of boxing miles on his body too.

this guy has fought no one ...and lost to Jacobs.

GGG +160 by DEC feels like damn good value to me. If he gets a stoppage it will be very late IMO.

Weird post. I think GGG wins but to insinuate he will lose early because Derevy lost to Jacobs in a competitive fight is odd considering GGG was life and death with Jacobs. I’ve seen nothing from Derevy that suggests he gets run over here. He’s built like a tank and quite technical. GGG is just better. I expect a competitive fight.

38 or 37 is well past a fighters prime an I believe that is GGG that age, still my gut feeling is GGG KO's Dervyanchenko within 6 rounds. but who knows, I will watch this fight with interest. I think GGG should retire at a certain time it is time to quit.

There was no life and death in GGG vs Jacobs. Golovkin himself says that it was an easy fight. He dropped Jacobs early and was assuming that he will finish him sooner or later, but Danny lasted the distance. The problem is that Golovkin is 2.5 years older now and had two hard fights against Canelo.

Easy fight?! Bro did you watch that fight? It was VERY close. And GGG is older now as you said. I had GGG-Jacobs 6 rds apiece. The knockdown won it.

I'll start appreciating Jacobs' qualities as a boxer once he stops playing games with his weight and moves up to Super MW or probably higher weight class where he belongs..

"Easy fight" came from Golovkin himself. Maybe he never used high gear. Having stopped his 20+ previous opponents, he was just rolling. ... and I had him winning 7-8 rounds.

I predicted a close win for GGG and it seems, I was right. However, objectively Golovkin even lost. He started good, but then he was having only separate moments. Derev started slow, but then began outfighting Golovkin. I had it 116-111 for Derev.

The fact that the judges agreed on only four rounds tells the story.
