I thought derevyanchenko won 114 to 113. Great fight.
The blueprint is two fold to beat him. Jacob's switched and took away ggg jab and outboxed him off the back foot. Canelo tried that in the 1st fight and failed. He switched gears and backed up ggg with body work on the rematch which is what derevyanchenko did. I dont think ggg looked old. He doesnt look like an unstoppable fighter against world class opponents

37 is old for boxing real old actually , and he looked old.. GGG would have flattened this guy 5 years ago and I thought Dervochynko won this fight was actually rooting for Derevyanchenko to KO GGG and though ref even intervened at critical juncture when GGG was ready to go but none the less 37 is ancient for boxing.

He has fought 48 rounds against A level competition. He looked good for a stretch of middle rounds against canelo In the first fight. Other than that he has been very beatable. He blows out second tier fighters. Top level fighters have good chins (usually) and against top level guys he isnt dominant

Anyone have GGG going winless vs Jacobs, Canelo, and Derev on their cards?

It is true GGG fought a bunch of 2nd tier fighters early in his career, the question is who was there for him to fight ? Who did he duck? I can't think of any. I always wanted to see GGG fight Pirog but that couldn't happen due to Pirog injury. The only person that comes to mind for GGG to fight would have to moved up to 168 and fought Ward, other than that I didn't think GGG ducked anyone.
Canelo waited for GGG to age before fighting him and I thought GGG won the first fight and lost the second. I thought the first fight was fair because even though GGG aged Canelo was coming up in weight to fight him.

On the other hand all other thoughts aside, that was an awesome fight between GGG and Dervyanchenko..

He doesnt have the power of an elite fighter but he had great footwork and body punching. Good chin too. Not as quick as him but reminds me of Tim bradley

Entertaining fight.
GGG didn't look to good at the end of it though and has clearly slipped.

Tom Loeffler is hinting that GGG will be forced to fulfil his oligations as the IBF champion and face the likes of Kamil Szeremeta.
Sergiy Derevyanchenko is going to end up being a similar situation as his gym mate, Danny Jacobs, since I don't expect GGG to grant either of those guys a rematch anytime soon.

Ya I'd think after a tough fight like this he'll be dropping down in level to prolong probably his final reign as a champ. Kamil was on the undercard and I'd bet he's next...he also dropped his European title, which is necessary to fight for a world title.
Re: Round-by-Round: Gennady Golovkin vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko - October 5, 2019
Makes business sense that Kamil is up next, you know the Polish market is good for boxing, right? But have no clue on Kamil other then what I can see on his record.

Kamil is a decent fighter and a strong Euro title holder, but underpowered for the world level. He is better than a shamefully picked can like Steve Rolls but not as good as Sergey. It won't be any notable mark on GGG's slate other than for the people interested in number of title defenses and unbeaten records.
I expect something like: Kamil, Murata, and then a bigger name that GGG loses to.

Kamil looks pretty solid from what I saw from one round and 45 sec. So Im checking him against Diaz, and yeah, better to test the water on world level before jumping in with GGG. Solid and but raw.
Thou, sounds reasonable. Then again Murata feels more relevent and also holds a trinket among many, so GGG could become "Unifed" WBA-whatever. Or Rematch Derevyanchenko.

Re: Round-by-Round: Gennady Golovkin vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko - October 5, 2019
Before the fight I called an easy win for GGG via wide UD or late stoppage.
After two rounds I was feeling pretty good about that call.........................then the bell rang for round three.
Great fight, not FOTY imo but a great fight. I will be watching that one again in the future.
I had GGG 114-113 and I think it could reasonably have been scored for Derev. Very close, hard fought, great fight.
I'm not going to say GGG should retire because that's his call not mine but for the first time I thought he looked old and he wasn't in there with a significantly younger fighter in his own prime.
Derev will be 34 at the end of this month, had 400+ amateur fights, 24 pro fights in the world series of boxing plus the pro fights that this site counts.
Derev has had 200 professional rounds(107 in WSoB), GGG has 212 rounds.
Would love to see a rematch but I'll be surprised if GGG takes a rematch here.
The last time the IBF tried to force a mandatory on GGG he discarded their belt, this time he will use that same belt to face someone other than Sergiy.

I’d like to see a rematch too more than a Canelo rematch. If Golovkin isn’t interested in a dev rematch I think it will show where his heads at. That perhaps he’s not as serious about boxing. He has 4 fights left with dazn I believe. To retire now would be to turn down tens of millions. If he’s not serious about boxing, he’s in a predicament.

He doesn't have to rematch Derev to continue. I'm pretty sure he'll make his IBF mandatory next vs Kamil S (who was on the undercard and just dropped his Euro title--which is necessary to fight for a world title), then maybe a Murata fight if both parties are still interested in that an able to work together.
I'd expect at least 2 opponents worse than Sergey before stepping up to that level or higher again. My guess is he fights his last fight in 2021.

Re: Round-by-Round: Gennady Golovkin vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko - October 5, 2019
I'm sure you are probably going to be right. I've always advocated for one hard fight, one easy fight with fighters in general. Golovkin however has very few fights left and if any fight called for a rematch and left questions (even though I had Golovkin winning), it was that fight.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑07 Oct 2019, 23:13 He doesn't have to rematch Derev to continue. Murata is also a fight I would be pleased with.

That was amazing. Both fighters won with this fight. I agree with another poster, I think Derev and Danny Jacobs as well, put more hurt on GGG than Canelo did in both fights combined. But...Derev just showed something that no one else has, and I like this guy's heart. I hope his real estate doesn't suffer too much from his loss to D.J and GGG because he fought two amazing champions better than pretty much anyone else has. He's exciting. Maybe "Fight of the year" right here.

Kamil isn’t the mandatory IBF’s mandatory challenger.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑07 Oct 2019, 23:13 He doesn't have to rematch Derev to continue. Golovkin and Derevyanchenko were the IBF’s mandatory challengers for the vacant title.
Matchroom are likely to orchestrate a scenario were they lobby the IBF to make Szeremeta their mandatory challenger, so they can control the narrative.
GGG won’t be criticised for taking an easy fight next if his team can boast they’re compelled to face Kamil Szeremeta, due to him being their mandatory challenger. And it also quickly frees up Golovkin to be able to engage in voluntary title defences for the next year or so.
The reason I’m eager to convey the fact that Kamil Szeremeta isn’t GGG’s mandatory challenger... and believe me it is a fact... is because some forum members are already assuming that Golovkin doesn’t have any choice but to face him next, which is clearly wrong.
Golovkin can be technically face whomever he damn well wants next, but his team probably feel entitled to granting him an easy fight next. And making Kamil Szeremeta the mandatory challenger gives them a great excuse to justify staging another mismatch.
