Will we get Canelo vs. GGG III now?
Canelo has claimed he's not interested, but DAZN is surely pushing hard for this fight (it's the primary reason they signed both guys to huge money contracts) and GGG may be looking more vulnerable after barely edging Derevyachenko this weekend. You'd have to imagine GGG wants it too since he thinks he got robbed in the last fight and he's only getting older.
It'll be a totally bizarre outcome if they somehow never end up fighting each other again despite both signing with the same broadcast outlet.

Re: Will we get Canelo vs. GGG III now?
..a couple of things that might change Canelo's mind:
a) GGG has got two belts now
b) None of them wants any confrontation with DAZN
c) GGG is not getting any younger and better. One more year and he'll be ripe for the taking...

Re: Will we get Canelo vs. GGG III now?
unlikely until GGG defends the belt
Canelo probably doesnt really want it , but then he doesnt seem to keen on fighting Callum Smith either ..

Re: Will we get Canelo vs. GGG III now?
Considering they're both under the same umbrella there's a chance it may happen, but after looking at GGG this weekend even the powers that be know he's slipped and not the same fighter anymore.
It doesn't mean GGG isn't a courageous guy, but you all saw how he looked.

Re: Will we get Canelo vs. GGG III now?
Canelo probably isn’t interested in facing GGG again. However, he surely appreciates the value of the fight for the network he’s contracted to, which is DAZN.
So the Mexican probably will face Golovkin again at some point in the near future. It’s a big payday for him and also a dead-cert victory to add to his resume.
For the time being though, Canelo has bigger fish to fry in the form of Sergey Kovalev.
Meanwhile, it seems likely that DAZN will allow GGG to have an easy interim bout against Kamil Szeremeta, since it’ll enable him to quickly dispose the highest-ranked challenger to his IBF title.
Matchroom will probably lobby the IBF to promote Kamil Szeremeta to becoming their mandatory challenger, as it'll allow GGG to move on with his career, safe in the knowledge he'll be allowed to engage in multiple voluntary title defences for the following twelve months or so.
GGG’s die-hard fans will passionately argue that Gennadiy has no choice but to face Szeremeta, so they’ll give him a free-pass for engaging in yet another Steve Rolls/Vanes Martirosyan/Dominic Wade mismatch type affair.
That being said, I really do want to be proven wrong about this. Since I’d love to see GGG facing some of his high-profile stablemates, such as: Demetrius Andrade; Danny Jacobs; Billy Joe Saunders; or Callum Smith.

I hoping that this fight will happen, but then again boxing is what it is.
However wins I accept it.

Re: Will we get Canelo vs. GGG III now?
..doesn't really matter here what I think: one of the preconditions was I believe that GGG should have a belt...

Golovkin will fight that Polish Euro champ next....Kamil.
1. Kamil is IBF mandatory
2. Kamil suddenly showed up and fought on the undercard
3. Kamil just dropped his Euro title, which has to be done to fight for the IBF
4. GGG needs to drop down in level to prolong his reign after a tough fight
5. A return to a dominant performance helps with marketing a bigger fight
It all falls into place

GGG will fight Murata or Kamil only if Canelo keeps refusing to fight him.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑07 Oct 2019, 09:11 Golovkin will fight that Polish Euro champ next....Kamil.

Re: Will we get Canelo vs. GGG III now?
Murata and Kamil would be right up his alley at this point in his career. They are very beatable even for this version of GGG and then he'd have a mandatory satisified and would be unified, which would get him a bit of momentum back and build a bigger fight that he likely loses better.
That would get him to at least 5 fights on his 6 fight contract. Realistically, he's going to have a tough time doing the full 6 if he doesn't drop the level for a few fights.
TBH, even as a GGG critic I have no problems if he did something like Kamil and Murata, then a big fight. He's an old guy and I'll give him some slack as long as they aren't total Steve Rolls type cans again.

..I don't think there's a problem if he takes a mandatory waiting for the big one..

Re: Will we get Canelo vs. GGG III now?
As per what I reported immediately after GGG’s bout against Sergiy Derevyanchenko, a tentative agreement is already in place for Gennadiy Golovkin to face Kamil Szeremeta during the first quarter of 2020.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑07 Oct 2019, 06:08Meanwhile, it seems likely that DAZN will allow GGG to have an easy interim bout against Kamil Szeremeta, since it’ll enable him to quickly dispose the highest-ranked challenger to his IBF title.

I’m pretty disappointed about my prediction coming to fruition.
It seems that GGG has resorted to taking business fights, which is something he previously criticised others for doing.
Re: Will we get Canelo vs. GGG III now?
I’d love Canelo/GGG 3 after Canelo/Kovalev. The clock is ticking for GGG. Father Time always wins. I think there needs to be a 3rd fight and it needs to be ASAP. 50-100 years from now people might look back at this and say it was one of boxing’s best rivalries
Re: Will we get Canelo vs. GGG III now?
I hope not. He's already beaten Canelo twice, and been told he didn't win. If he knocked him out, he'd probably be DQ'ed.
I'd rather see Golovkin just retire from the sport altogether. Obvious corruption in the sport is a hard thing to stomach, especially when it's your favorite fighter it's happening to.

Re: Will we get Canelo vs. GGG III now?
i would think that it would make a lot of sense. the first 2 were big ppv. but ggg's star is beginning to fade, so best chance to make a big event of it.
we'll see how canelo v kovalev goes, i think canelo could run into some serious trouble there, so that could have an impact.
it could well be an ideal rebound fight off a kovalev loss, unless canelo wants to keep campaigning at higher weights.

There is no way Canelo will face Golovkin after losing to Kovalev (which can only happen via stoppage).

Honestly I don’t care to see a third fight. GGG is on the slide and Canelo is in his prime and getting more experienced.

Golovkin previously criticised “old” fighters like Cotto for taking business fights, but he’s doing it himself nowadays.greg wrote: ↑10 Oct 2019, 12:34..pray forgive him for saying thatEnlightened-One wrote: ↑10 Oct 2019, 12:03 ......

... after a long and very successful career 37 -year-OLD Golovkin has nothing to prove, resorting to taking business fights or just retire is a logical thing to do..
![]()
His fans jumped on the bandwagon and agreed with their hero. So they too criticised the same fighters Gennadiy was complaining about.
Now that GGG has become hypocritical, his die-hard fiercely loyal fans argue that he’s allowed to take business fights because he’s “old”.
Go figure?
Re: Will we get Canelo vs. GGG III now?
A Canelo fight would be a business fight. It'd be a fight he's taking for the money knowing he won't be allowed to win.

Eddie Hearn apparently just told ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael that Golovkin will very likely be facing Kamil Szeremeta next.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑10 Oct 2019, 12:03As per what I reported immediately after GGG’s bout against Sergiy Derevyanchenko, a tentative agreement is already in place for Gennadiy Golovkin to face Kamil Szeremeta during the first quarter of 2020.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑07 Oct 2019, 06:08Meanwhile, it seems likely that DAZN will allow GGG to have an easy interim bout against Kamil Szeremeta, since it’ll enable him to quickly dispose the highest-ranked challenger to his IBF title.
