Any info on the Audley Harrison vs Samuel Peter amateur fight?

Post by dawudboxer »

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has any info on Audley Harrison's win over Sam Peter that is said to have taken place in July 2000. I heard that Harrison won a 3:2 decision but don't now the exact date, location or what tournament it was. Harrison wrote in his autobiography that it happened in 1999 in the same tournament he lost to Cengiz Koc but I haven't been able to confirm that.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

The tournament Harrison lost to Koc was a fight for an Olympic qualification at +91 kg weight class at the Ahmet Comert Tournament in Istanbul, Turkey in November 1999 .

I doubt they fought in that tournament, but the results I found were incomplete.

After a little research, I found a story from 2008 about a potential pro fight between Harrison and Peter that quoted Peter saying:
Of Audley Harrison, who many call 'Fraudley' Peter says, "Oh, he's a good fighter, he's won the Olympic Gold Medal. I was there and I fought him one time in Belgium. I knew him before the Olympics. He's a great guy."

Indeed, Harrison holds a victory over Peter from his amateur days, winning a close 3-2 decision two months before he won the Olympic gold medal in Sydney, Australia in 2000.
Upon further investigation, the Belgium Cup held in Eupen, Belgium in June 2000 and most likely they fought there.

Thanks very much again, I showed my findings to someone and they have found that Harrison beat Peter July 13th 2000 in Belgium. Then he boxed a second fight with Cengiz Koc and lost again.
