Spong is very tough. He was a top kickboxer and he is now 14-0, 13 ko's, in boxing, albeit against far lesser competition. He is from Surinam, which is a tiny country in South America that hardly anybody ever heard of. Dutch is their main language.
And now for the millions in attendence and billions watching overseas here is the Surinam national anthem sung by somebody who is probably well known there!"

Most of people are too dumb to read properly the bus schedule. Surinam? Most would say that it's some type of sushi, I guess.

Heavyweight Tyrone Spong tested positive for a banned substance, leaving 2018 fighter of the year and former undisputed cruiserweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk in search of a new opponent.
Usyk was supposed to make his heavyweight debut against Spong, a former kickboxing star, on Saturday night (DAZN) in a scheduled 12-round fight at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago. Now Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn is on the hunt for a new opponent after Spong tested positive for the banned substance clomiphene. The results of Spong's test came to light on Monday night.
"My thought is it's bad because people are trying to use a shortcut and cheat and the other side of the fight is working so hard. It's completely disrespectful," Egis Klimas, Usyk's manager, told ESPN. "Usyk wasn't very happy when he found out, of course. He prepared hard for this fight and the other side is trying to cheat and take a shortcut.
Clomiphene is used as a fertility drug in women who do not ovulate, but it also can be used to increase testosterone levels in men.
"We have been contacted by VADA to inform us that there has been an adverse finding in Tyrone Spong's test," Hearn said. "It has been sent to the State of Illinois commission and further information will be released [on Tuesday] morning. We have reserve opponents standing by."
Hearn did not want to disclose any of the possible replacement opponents because he was still negotiating with them, but he told ESPN he is in talks with "three or four" fighters.
Klimas said whomever Hearn can line up, Usyk will fight.
"He's been preparing for a long time. We will fight anyone who is willing to fight," Klimas said.

With his wounds healed and armed with a full training camp, TJ Doheny is set to embark on a run towards a second title reign.
The former junior featherweight titlist will return to the ring this weekend, facing Colombia’s Jesus Martinez on the undercard of a DAZN-streamed show this Saturday at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Ill.
All eyes will be on the evening’s main event, as former World cruiserweight champion and reigning 2018 Fighter of the Year Oleksandr Usyk (16-0, 12KOs) makes his heavyweight debut as he faces unbeaten prospect and former kickboxing superstar Tyrone Spong.
“It’s the start of the build back towards another world title,” Mike Altamtura, Doheny’s manager told Boxing Scene. “He’s been in camp for eight weeks and is excited to get back into the mix.”

Re: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyrone Spong - October 12, 2019
Spong: This Is Manipulative Attempt To Remove Me From Usyk Fight
“We have been contacted by VADA to inform us that there has been an adverse finding in Tyrone Spong’s test,” Hearn noted through his verified Twitter account Monday evening. “It has been sent to the State of Illinois commission and further information will be released in the morning.
“We have reserve opponents standing by.”
BS.com has learned that Spong’s “A” sample showed an adverse finding of Clomiphene, which is commonly found in female fertility prescription medication. As it relates to usage by males (obviously not looking to get pregnant), it has been deemed by World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code as a masking agent, hence landing on the banned list both in- and out-of-competition.
VADA’s standard are far stricter, as the Las Vegas-based agency boasts a zero tolerance when it comes to all banned substances.
The positive test result was released by VADA to all parties involved with Saturday’s DAZN-streamed card. Hearn is the lead promoter for the event, feeling the need to alert the public of the news.
“We received the email (at roughly 7:00pm ET),” Marcos Gonzales, Spong’s manager told Boxing Scene. “Eddie had already tweeted out the news by the time I saw the email notification.
“It’s very strange because Tyrone was just informed that he tested negative from the other tests we did.”
There are already whispers that plans are in place to remove Spong from the show, although the matter is subject to a hearing with the Illinois State Athletic Commission. Spong’s team planned to file a request for the “B” sample to be tested, although the timing of the news coupled with the process in having those results come back would come well after Saturday’s scheduled contest.
The timing of it all is what doesn’t sit well with their side.
“We had a face off today, and all of a sudden Usyk decided to shut it down,” claims Gonzalez. “We just had a weird feeling all day that something was off.
“Everything started to make sense after receiving that email from VADA.”
More direct to the point was the drug testing casualty.
“This is a set up,” Spong insisted to Boxing Scene. “I vehemently deny that I have ever taken the substance named in VADA’s report. I have asked for testing of the B sample at a laboratory of my choosing. “Testing performed last week at the request of the Illinois Boxing Commission showed, what I’ve always known, that I’m a clean fighter.”
The situation marks the fourth DAZN event promoted by Hearn where a scheduled main event participant has tested positive for a banned substance.
As for Spong, all he wants is for this matter to go through the proper channels and for the chance to clear his name and proceed with the biggest opportunity of his career.
“I ask Matchroom to publicly acknowledge that I tested negative for all performance enhancing substances just a few days ago,” notes Spong, who is sensing the deck is being stacked against him. “Any adverse finding is impossible and in my opinion a manipulative attempt to remove me from this fight.
“I voluntarily agreed to VADA testing because I have nothing to hide. I will not rest until I’m absolved of this outlandish allegation and will pursue all legal avenues available to me, including seeking legal damages to correct this wrong.”

Re: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyrone Spong - October 12, 2019
Reshat Mati is back in action at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago on Saturday night, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK – and Mati told ‘Born Fighter’ that he’s ready to thrill again after a frustrating time out through injury.
LIMITED TICKETS FOR THE HEAVYWEIGHT DEBUT OF OLEKSANDR USYK AGAINST TYRONE SPONG IN CHICAGO ARE ON SALE NOW
Mati raced to 3-0 with two KO wins in three months after making his debut a year ago in the arena he returns in on Saturday.
‘The Albanian Bear’s’ progress was checked by a shoulder injury suffered in training after his first round KO win in New York in January, and the 21 year old has faced a frustrating spell on the sidelines while fellow youngsters in the Matchroom Boxing USA stable added to their growing reputations.
Mati has recovered from his injury and is itching to get back on track, starting in the Windy City where it all began one year ago.
“It was tough,” said Mati. “I was watching all my teammates winning and going to the fights, thinking that could have been me. But it is what it is, that time has passed and I’m back in shape and ready to put on another show.
“Rehab was tough, they were saying ‘don’t do this or this’, there was very specific on what I could or couldn’t do. They would say ‘don’t go for a run’ and I would say ‘how am I going to get back in shape without going for a run?’ They would just say ‘do you want your shoulder to get better? Then don’t go for a run!’ New York Sports Science Lab fixed my shoulder up and I feel better than ever, and I’m ready to KO someone again.
“I’m just here to put on a great show. There’s no ceiling for me. I want to be Albania’s first world champion, that’s the main thing for me, put Albania on the map for boxing. It’s tough, when I get punched in the face my Dad is getting hit too, that’s how he feels. He’s been on it with me and the boxing since day one and I cannot pay him back for what he’s done for me. It’s a job for me now and hopefully I can make everyone proud.
“Trust is very important to me, and that’s what it’s like with Coach Sosa. If I feel like we don’t fit and there’s something not quite right, then it’s not going to work. Sosa has been with me since I was around 12 and we’ve been all good, now we’re going up and up the levels together.
“I wasn’t nervous on my debut in Chicago, I don’t get nervous before fights anymore. I’ve had hundreds of fights now and i just go in and have fun, putting on a good show is all that matters to me. It’s a job, no-one gets nervous going to their job.”

Re: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Chazz Witherspoon - October 12, 2019
Chazz Witherspoon will get one last chance to make his mark in the heavyweight division.
BS.com has learned that Witherspoon has replaced Tyrone Spong as Oleksandr Usyk’s opponent for Usyk’s true heavyweight debut Saturday night in Chicago. The 38-year-old Witherspoon accepted what will be an extremely challenging fight on less than one week’s notice.
DAZN, which will stream Usyk-Witherspoon from DePaul University’s Wintrust Arena, and Matchroom Boxing, Usyk’s promoter, are expected to officially announce Witherspoon as Spong’s substitute sometime Tuesday.
Witherspoon (38-3, 29 KOs), a cousin of former WBA/WBC heavyweight champ Tim Witherspoon, hasn’t had what would be considered a meaningful fight in seven years. Seth Mitchell stopped him in the third round of that April 2012 bout at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Witherspoon, a Philadelphia native who resides in Paulsboro, New Jersey, is undefeated since Mitchell beat him. He has fought just eight times in the seven-plus years since suffering that loss, though.
Witherspoon’s previous two losses were a disqualification defeat to Chris Arreola in June 2008 and a ninth-round TKO loss to Tony Thompson in December 2009. In his last fight, Witherspoon stopped Santander Silgado (28-7, 22 KOs) after the second round March 23 in Atlantic City.

Re: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Chazz Witherspoon - October 12, 2019
Oleksandr Usyk shouldn't be taking a huge leap backwards in his career to face journeyman opponents like Chazz Witherspoon.
The Ukraine isn’t going to gain much from this fight. And it’s not as if this bout allows him to acclimatize to his new weight class, since the fleshy American is fairly small for a heavyweight.
I guess it’s a stay-busy bout that will provide Usyk with another knockout to add to his highlight-reel.

About what I expected. 5 days notice, new division. Need someone with a reasonable record at a glance, decent size and american. But still little to no real threat.
I'm completely ok with this step back to keep a date, but if he gets it done drama free he should aim to get back fighting soon. Mabey an undercard seeing as he is in a mandatory spot for those belts.

As this is change of opponent I think its wise to merge the 2 topics into one.

I'll settle for just seeing him back in action at all.
