REGGIE JOHNSON-GREG DICKSON missing fight card info

Post by ProfessorLindenbrook »

Hi again. Doing more archival tape transferring to blu-ray and hard drive. Found some information missing from the July 5, 1990 fight card headlined by the USBA Middleweight Championship between Reggie Johnson and Greg Dickson. First off the bout between Jack Basting and Tim Tomashek was not a heavyweight bout, but in fact a cruiserweight fight. Basting's weight was announced by announcer Michael Buffer as 194 lbs. (you have it listed as 191 lbs.) and Tomashek was 197 lbs.. You were missing the weight class for the Rudy Nix vs Jesus Castaneda fight. It was a 4 round Light Heavyweight contest. Your listed weights are correct. This fight was officially stopped by referee Norm Budden as due to a headbutt induced cut suffered by Rudy Nix (the cut was awful). Worth noting however is that replays clearly show the cut was caused by a right hand thrown by Castaneda. The card was apparently an annual affair in Gardnerville, Nevada. It was announced and shown by ESPN on screen graphics as being fought at Cow Palace Boxing. This location was apparently a cow pasture previously used locally for Little League Baseball. All the best.
