Dmitry Bivol vs Lenin Castillo

Post by handsofstone »

Bivol defends his WBA Light Heavyweight title against Castillo on the Usyk card this weekend on Sky, bit of a poor defence really, never heard of Castillo, he knocked down Marcus Browne in his points loss apparently, one of his 2 losses, never been stopped and has 15KOs in his 20 or so wins

Bivol coming in off the wide points win over Smith Jr, he oozed class again that night but he did get shook up pretty bad right at the end of one of the later rounds, he's a well schooled disciplined boxer, cant see him taking his eye off the ball here, he deserves to be in these unifications, hopefully Arum and Hearn can work together again to make Bivol against the winner of Berebiev/Gvozdyk

Did he go the distance with Browne?

I gave Bivol everything but my god that was boring, Castillo fought like an experienced journeyman, he knew how to survive and avoid taking clean punches but he offered next to nothing offensively, Bivol was one paced and one dimensional , threw mainly jabs and never opened Castillo up, scored a lovely KD in the 6th, cracking right hand sent Castillo down and took away his legs but Bivol never showed any urgency for the finish or at any point after really, pretty poor spectacle, I like Bivol but he has his critics and I'm sure he'll have even more after this

Castillo looked in a spot of bother straight after the knockdown, thought Bivol should have put his foot down and put together some combinations at that point to try and force an early finish. Absolute cruise throughout but not overly impressive recently Bivol, obviously Castillo came to survive so not THAT easy to look good but expected a bit more to be honest.

I still think Bivol is the man at 175, I seen someone tweet earlier that Bivol is like a Ferrari that's never been driven above 50mph,

Quality fighter no doubt, hopefully when the big fights come they will bring out the best in him.

Bivol is very sharp , especially with counters, but he has no second gear when he has to initiate the offense. I still rate him pretty good though, an aggressive opponent would bring out more

I expect he'll fight Cal Johnson at some point next year. Unfortunately the other top 175 are not with MR

I was about to post the same thing.

He’ll be in good fights when there’s someone good infringe of him I think and I don’t think we’ll be waiting too much longer.

Which is just as well because I just remembered I literally fell asleep watching him.
