Who should Usyk fight next?

Post by Contendeh »

With yesterday’s sparring session behind him, Usyk is in an interesting spot.

With a potential Joshua fight, best case scenario, at least six months away (probably longer), Usyk faces another long period of inactivity should he just wait around for a fight that may not happen.

That being said, should he take an interim fight, you want it to be worthwhile, but not risk a potential big payday.

Any Top 10 or 15 guy would be ok by me.

Quite a few he could fight that I wouldn't consider a waste of time. Hopefully he gets one of the Big 4 sometime next year. Although if things work out as they should The Big 4 will have become The Big 2 again.

He should fight someone from top 10-15, while Ruiz defends vs Joshua. Then he should fight for the belt, as he's the WBO mandatory.

That's probably the plan.

They could make a fight aganist Whyte or something. Both guys are with matchroom so would be easy to make if Whyte is up for it.

I think whyte is waiting to see what happens with his mandatory shot...is the WBC keeping him with the failed drug test? Either way the WBC wont mandate a wilder fight

Eddie Hearn is suggesting he will wait for his title fight. But I assume that will get stalled with whoever wins aj vs Ruiz will try go into a wilder unification.
I would like to see him fight on the aj undercard because it sets up his mandatory nicely. But honestly nothing too high risk. Pov and kownaki, breazeal, Washington, Martin? There the only highish ranked guys that might not be more risk than reward.

Yeah, somebody(Haymon? More likely it is Wilder's own team) is paying off WBC to keep it that way.

Whyte might take it, then he gets the WBO mandate instead. I don't know how they will work this out. Or have no clue what the plans are for Usyk's next fight. Just hoping.

If the WBC was protecting Wilder they could just make him franchise champ and then he'd have no mandatories

any of the usual names from the UK would be welcome , and bring him to the UK to fight.

I dont feel the yanks really appreciate his skill set " cos he aint big nuff "

Dont think he should be going straight up against AJ or Wilder tho until he gets a few more fights , but he has said he will take these fights anyway

I’d love to see Usyk take on Parker or Pulev next

Hearn keeps saying he gonna fight for a world title. He said yesterday that the WBO will likely be vacated because the Ruiz-AJ swimmer will probably fight Pulev in the IBF mando.

So because of this, the WBO will go Vacant.

But I heard there was a federal ruling that the orgs would allow mando’s to take place after another and not expect them together.

Also, Usyk is only a mando because he held the title at a below weight.

Any top 10-15 fighter I suppose. Right now I think boxrec having him ranked as the 4th best heavy in the world is a tad premature. I can't see ranking above Fury.

This talk of Wilder being protected is ridiculous. Sounds dumber everytime I hear/read it. Wilder would splatter Whyte.

Washington would've been a good first foray. I'd like to see him vs Martin for his second fight at HW.

Drug cheat Whyte and Miller should never be allowed to fight again and their last few wins has to be reversed.

Get over it. It's boxing. They'll both make more money and get big fights.
