James Tennyson vs. Craig Evans - 23 November 2019

James Tennyson [25(21)-3(3)] will make it back-to-back PPV shows as he fights on another massive card in London on October 26.

Fresh of the back of an eye catching WBA International ranking second round stoppage win over Atif Shafiq on the undercard of VasylLomachenko vs Luke Campbell on Saturday, the Belfast fighter has been confirmed on Matchroom’s next London pay-per-view show.

‘The Assassin’ will appear alongside Regis Prograis and Josh Taylor – who compete in the World Boxing Super Series final – as well as an anticipated Dereck Chisora vs Joseph Parker heavyweight clash at the O2 Arena.

The former European super featherweight champion and IBF world title challenger will take on Craig Evans [20(3)-2(1)-2] as expected.

The British Boxing Board of Control had ordered the Irish and Welsh fighters to compete in a British title eliminator – the winner to be rewarded with a shot at the Lonsdale Belt currently decorating the waist of another Welshman in Olympian Joe Cordina.

Matchroom and Mark Dunlop won the purse bids to promote the clash and the MHD boss was suggesting October as the date for the fight as recent as Saturday night.

That now appears to be the case and ‘Tenny’ and Evans will trade leather on a massive show.

However, there are rumours that suggest the clash maybe for the British title rather for the right to fight for the prestigious strap.

Having defended his title against Gavin Gwynne on the same card as Tennyson secured victory over Shafiq at the weekend, Cordina was talking about fighting former Paul Hyland Jr foe Francesco Patera for the European strap.

If he does manage to secure an EBU tilt, it would perhaps free up the British title for ‘Tenny’ and Evans to compete for.

Evans has Irish previous having twice beaten Stephen Ormond.

Indeed, the fighter, whose coach Gavin Rees also beat Cavan’s Andy Murray in a European title fight, will be the last name on ‘The Rock’s’ record as the Clondalkin puncher retired post the second Evans defeat.

Fights at lightweight and it's a British title eliminator so will be for a vacant belt I would think. Tennyson seems to really be punching hard but hes coming up against a slick amateur. Nice fight to be fair. If I was to stick money on it would be for tenny but 100 percent wont do 12 rounds.

James Tennyson (25-3, 21 KOs), a former European super-featherweight champion and IBF world title challenger, will now face Welshman Craig Evans –– in a showdown that will double up as an eliminator for Joe Cordina’s British title –– next month.

The fight has been moved to the North West of England will now take place on November 23 at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.

Evans has a record of 20-2-2 with three quick and was last in action back in June at the Vale Sports Arena in Cardiff when he won an unanimous decision against Stephen Ormond to retain the WBO European title.

It will now form part of the supporting cast to Callum Smith’s WBA Super, WBC Diamond and Ring Magazine world super-middleweight title defence against mandatory challenger and fellow Brit John Ryder.

The card will be screened exclusively live on regular Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN Stateside, with a whole host of local talent also joining the bill.
