Can Dana White fix boxing?
Re: Can Dana White fix boxing?
Boxing doesn't have its troubles to seek. What it definitely doesn't need is fixing by another egomaniac and, in Dana White's case, a man who has been instrumental in the rise of another combat sport that has and continues to take potential audience away from boxing.

A billionaire egomaniac narcissist is not going to take it slowly. Hes going to come in swinging his dick and try and take over from day oneALI wrote: ↑13 Oct 2019, 02:19I doubt he is planning for overnight success. His strategy, whatever it is, has to be long term, i'm sure he knows that. I doubt he feels he can take over in 12 months. Making a splash and a lot of noise early doors gets him well needed attention, its good for him and Zuffa Boxing.tiny_acres wrote: ↑12 Oct 2019, 20:46
Exactly what I was saying to a guy talking about this.
No way is Dana just going to steal the fighters away. Hes going to grab a bunch of no name undefeated guys with no promotional ties and pawn them off as world class
He notes he has been talking with everybody except Arum and De La Hoya. By that it seems he wants to include the other promotional orginisations. That does not sound like a UFC business model.
Interesting to know if he has spoken with Hearn? Eddie likes to talk and would probably lay out the details of their discussion. Get on it Kugan.
Then there's PBC/Haymon. So did he talk with him, hard to imagine Haymon being interested in collaborating with Zuffa?
Re: Can Dana White fix boxing?
For him to add another title would make boxing more broken,if he done simikar to what he done with MMA then its just adding an extra title and all it would do is get the hard core UFC fans to watch with interest and some casual/average jo public to watch but the hardcore boxing fan wouldnt take to it i dont think. I like what Dana White has done with the UFC but im sorry it wont take off in boxing,he could be another promotor and see what happens but to add the UFC banner into the sport of boxing is a no go.ALI wrote: ↑12 Oct 2019, 12:49 He seems to think so: https://youtu.be/Bd6r_PTeEOg
What do you think his plans are?
Will he try and implement the UFC model? One orginisation, less weight divisions, one champion per division, fight who you are told to fight, etc.
By the way he is talking, he is not going to come at it like any other promoter, i.e. get a few fighters, put on a show now and then, and feck knows what comes next.
I guess many will write of his chances of doing anything major in boxing. It certainly wont be easy, but it will be interesting to watch his progression in this sport.

I would prefer to have all the figher under White so it would be easier to make a new fight night game for the xbox. ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Their fighters make plenty. They also have access to performance centers and help with medical bills. The biggest problem in boxing is the top fighters are insanely overpaid to the point it's not much incentive to go for a challenge. They're the promotion, they deal with the same commissions and officials that boxing does. They have far superior ped testing that doesn't show favorites. Why comment authoritatively on something you clearly know very little about?

I think it will be the pbc. The guys al robbed are making noise about no return to their investment. Zuffa buys pbc, al gets some money back to the investors and stays on as 'manager'. That's my best hypothesis.
Re: Can Dana White fix boxing?
Buy PBC, somehow i doubt it. And where would Haymon fit in with Dana running the show, what exactly would he be doing?Onetimeonly wrote: ↑13 Oct 2019, 12:40I think it will be the pbc. Zero chance of that. The UFC control almost every aspect of a fight negotiation, Haymon would have nothing to do or say, he would be nothing more than a thorn in their side and they would never allow that. There is no place for a manager/advisor of the likes lof Haymon in the UFC. Its probably a good thing, it means we get to see the biggest fights happen over and over and over again. As a fan, whats not to like.
Re: Can Dana White fix boxing?
I'm all for it, why would anyone not want this? As long as there is more than 1 title belt the sport will never be as good as it could be. Go Dana!

Selling the brand doesn't come without leverage. White wouldn't have time to oversee everything and Al's fighters are extremely loyal. Yeah, zero chance is short sighted. I've heard from reliable people that's the plan. The same company bought the UFC and kept on Dana.ALI wrote: ↑14 Oct 2019, 01:42Zero chance of that. I can quite imagine hes your stereotypical promoter when he represents you and will behave in ways such as Don King.
And yet another egotistical scumbag leech promoter who fucks over and talks non stop shit about fighters while swanning around in his private jet is the way to fix it yeah?

Re: Can Dana White fix boxing?
With the overexposure of the sport they've began to make more money, let's not pretend that's because of Saint White, when Dana had his way they were making pathetic money while he and the Fertittas went around in limousines and jets, no fighter on the roster has ever made more than Dana White, no, not even ConorOnetimeonly wrote: ↑13 Oct 2019, 12:32Their fighters make plenty. Never said he was a saint or the fighters made more than him. Why would they? He and the fertuttas also risked everything they had. Not sure what your point is?GreenLightning wrote: ↑14 Oct 2019, 15:18With the overexposure of the sport they've began to make more money, let's not pretend that's because of Saint White, when Dana had his way they were making pathetic money while he and the Fertittas went around in limousines and jets, no fighter on the roster has ever made more than Dana White, no, not even ConorOnetimeonly wrote: ↑13 Oct 2019, 12:32

If they paid 4 billion for the UFC, they obviously have an ocean of money so who knows. I guess it is probably not so wise to come into a diverse playground of managers, promoters, orginisations and just try to wipe them all out and start up your own orginisation from scratch. Taking over PBC and teaming up with Haymon could be a smart move. I guess it all depends on what their plans are?
So they paid 4 billion US for the UFC. Anyone care to guess what PBC might be valued at? I'd guess much much less than the the 4 mil for the UFC???
