Re: Dave Allen return
I really don't want to see this happen and dave is stupid to think he can compete with DDD.
If he wants to fight on he needs to show he can compete at a high level. Nothing he has shown tells me he is above area level at best and needs to think of his health in light of the events that have happened over the weekend.

Re: Dave Allen return
Dave Allen needs to retire, have one last farewell easy fight against a journeyman. Any promoter that sticks him in with DD is out of order. Dave is one fighter I really worry about in the long run.
Richard Towers said in sparring he was just the same taking crazy amounts of shots with his head. I genuinely worry about his long term health. Its not worth the money Dave!

Re: Dave Allen return
I could see Dubois using Allen as a punchbag for a few rounds and after the Price beating would be far worse for his health and well being than a quick KO ending

Re: Dave Allen return
Dubois is talking about bigger names and better fighters thesedays.
I want to see him continue moving forwards. Allen is a step backwards. Perhaps Gorman can beat Allen up instead?

Re: Dave Allen return
I don’t really understand the issue with this fight? Agree that DD would be a very heavy favourite and personally I’d expect him to stop Allen in the second quarter of the fight but talk of promotors being out of order for making it or of the Board refusing to sanction it seem a bit over the top to me.
From DD’s perspective it’s a decent fight to make. Allen is a tough sod and is unlikely to just disappear when hit. He’s reasonably heavy handed in a clubbing sort of way and has the potential to take DD deeper in a fight while carrying some sort of threat than probably anyone he has fought, bat Gorman. He is arguably as good as anyone DD has fought so far so from DD’s perspective he’s a perfectly good option for a young heavy continuing to make gradual steps towards establishing himself at British level before moving up to European.
From a promotors point of view Allen is a decent ticket seller who’ll talk a good game and bring additional viewers to a show. Allen has been matched far more ambitiously in the past (Ortiz was an appalling match up) and hasn’t been sparked out by anyone, or looks any worse recently than he has always done. He took more of a beating against Ortiz and arguably Whyte and Yoka than he did against Price and is ranked in or around where DD is by most ranking orgs. If DD wants to win the British outright he’ll likely be fighting the likes of Allen to do so, esp given the top five British heavy’s either all are above British level, or consider themselves to be.
From Allen and his managements point of view it all depends where his head is at. DD would likely be an excellent pay day and they may view this as a cash out and retire fight. Realistically Allen isn’t winning anything above Area level given his own ability and the current depth in the division but it appears that he’s earned well given this and boxing may well have set him up nicely to have a decent quality of life if he looks after his money. Aye DD is a serious threat who obviously punches hard and is capable of doing serious damage but who is Allen going to face for any half decent money who isn’t? He’s as well rolling the dice one last time and then getting out with a decent payday, or re-launching himself with a meaningful win. Allen isn’t going to improve now, he is what he is. Fighting cans is a pointless exercise and given his style he could end up hurt facing a lesser puncher and taking ten rounds of punishment. If he wants to continue he’s as well taking meaningful fights.
If he passes all the required medical tests then I don’t see a problem with the Board letting him fight either. There wouldn’t be half the fighters left who box in the UK if the Board pulled Allen on the basis of them thinking he’d loose and take a bit of punishment doing so. I’m more concerned for Price vs Chisora ( chinny heavy who has been rendered unconscious or bambi legged multiple times every time he’s stepped up). Given this logic McCrory wouldn’t have been sanction against Barrett it arguably Cheeseman vs Fitzgerald, etc. Benn being licensed against anyone is criminal, Allen against DD is not.
Given all this I don’t see an issue here. It’s a decent level of opponent for DD and while it’s not a fight I’m personally excited about I can think of plenty more this year at a similar level that fall into that category

Re: Dave Allen return
It's understandable. Allen's a guy who basically gets used as a punch bag and has taken loads of shots (and it's the sustained beatdowns that do most of the life changing injuries, not the quick stoppages).. And he was said to have collapsed (!) and had double vision (seeing 5 Prices or something?) after his last fight, where again he took many shots and then contemplated retiring.
In Dub you have a wrecking ball, so this fight just feels very unhealthy for a well-liked guy who has taken beatings and would be sure to take another, even with some warning signs possibly already there that he should be looking on the way out.
The whole fighting after collapsing thing is a bit unsettling to me, even if he does get a doctor's note saying he's good to fight again,.

Re: Dave Allen return
Agree in regard to someone collapsing after a fight but has this been confirmed or is it just rumour and ultimately so long as the proper medical checks are carried out then I’m happy to leave it in the hands of those who know better than me re potential brain injuries, etc.
It’s when the correct checks aren’t carried out, or boxers aren’t honest that worry me

Re: Dave Allen return
If it's not true the people who put it out there should be f@cking ashamed of themself
I always think of that boxer Leal. He fought Gradovich and collapsed after the fight. He lived and then was cleared to fight again and got killed. Of course , it's one thing if the proper checks weren't made, but any time a guy has collapsed etc and then fights again it seems worrying. Of course, the doctors know more than me, but it's just that gut feel that's tough to shake.
I just wish for the best for Dave Allen's brain. For all boxer's really, but he is taking repeated clean shots from Whyte, Ortiz, Price, Yoka, and then maybe Dub the Destroyer (plus a bunch of other lower ranked guys he just ate shots from), and it might be doing him more harm actually to not be folding quicker like Price does.
It's true though a lot of fights have this kind of look to them and we overlook it, no doubt you are right about that. I mean no one gets worked up and worried about Danny Martz being used as KO fodder to give another HW example. Still, there's just an inevitably unhealthy beating feeling and I guess since Allen's well liked and well known more people seem to care

Re: Dave Allen return
Don’t see why they wouldn’t unfortunately if Dave Allen is medically fit/passed to fight.
Re: Dave Allen return
Allen himself said that only a few weeks ago.
He’s chasing quickest paydays before chucking it now just with his durability - he’ll take anything now for last few quid it seems.
Dangerous game when you start just taking any fight for couple of quid.

Re: Dave Allen return
The fact that you say DDD will stop Dave in the second quarter of the fight is more than enough punishment for Allen and on a personal note I don't want to see it and any promoter with an ouch of salt should think of his health before ticket sales.fizzjambo wrote: ↑15 Oct 2019, 00:03 I don’t really understand the issue with this fight? DDD is at a level Dave has never been at and this match up is just wrong unless you just see the £££ signs which I for one am note interested in at all. I want to see competetetive fights and not one sided beat downs. I love boxing but it breaks my heart to see fighters injured.
Allen is not your typical journeyman, his style is all wrong for a journeyman and will not end well. The fighters health should me paramount before ticket sales and profit , makes me sick to see mismatches expecially when the the opponents chin and bravery is too good for his own good. This won't end well.

Re: Dave Allen return
Quick ko's are much less worrying that long beat downs though. Martz has no chin and falls at the first flush shot, Allen doesn't and that is the issue.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑15 Oct 2019, 00:43 If it's not true the people who put it out there should be f@cking ashamed of themself

Would Usyk be a possibility?
Re: Dave Allen return
Usyk next fight is for the WBO heavyweight title.
Re: Dave Allen return
I get that he just fought Chazz W but that was an intro to the division and after a lay off, but Allen is a long way below the level Usyk should and will be fighting at.

I don't take any notice of Allen these days, and I would advise no one else does either. He's up and down like a yo-yo and his words can't be taken at face value.
I was on the train with Allen and wanted him to move along and for a time I thought it was possible he had enough about him, but let's face it. He ain't close to being good enough.
Dubois has moved on from Allen.

It's a business, Usyk probably gets more notice over here , he'll look good against Allen.
His target is Joshua

Allen is too low an opponent. Remember that Witherspoon was super short notice and the 3rd guy scheduled. Plus Usyk's already now done that level.
