1 belt, 1 champ who has obligations in order to remain champ.

I was thinking about this. The Franchise tag is good for aging ATG's like Pacman, so he can go on his way without holding a real belt hostage.

Is it my imagination or do I smell Eddie Hearn in this trying to force a Loma - Haney fight in the near future?

This does the opposite....it removes Loma's obligation to fight Haney as mandatory.

Wasn’t really his decision was it?

He wanted to become undisputed champion..

Haney is now youngest world champion. But he’s not celebrating.

It also gives Haney a lot of leeway on when he will have to face a mandatory.

In the presentation Haney was promoted to Champion. The last mandatory was recorded as the fight between Loma and Campbell on 31st August. And there is no silver champion.

Now given how flexible the WBC have been with mandatories, it's not inconceivable that Haney would be allowed to pick his opponents for the next 2 years.

I do not understand this. Loma has 3 belts. Who is mandatory for each of those? I understand he is focused on Commey-Lopez winner, but if you has 3 belts you cannot avoid mandatories for long time. So what is the situation? I thought Devin Haney was mandatory for WBC

With the WBC, now Haney will be full champ. Loma is franchise champ and has no mandatories with the WBC now.

Haney won't be at 35 for two years. He wanted a belt and loma.

I'm not putting this on Haney. He is young and ambitious, but there is what a young fighter wants, and what management wants

Does this mean that Lomachenko has to fight for the WBC belt again in order to unify?

Regardless of the likely outcome, the kid has earned his shot and fans want to see the fight.

WBC is taking the piss here.

Canelo was bad enough, but given the money he generates, it is kind of understandable that they want to keep him sweet.

There is no such argument for Loma.
