Gomez UD or late KO, although Ford's height would have given him some issues

Interestingly and surprisingly, I pick Patrick Ford to win this fight against Wilfredo Gomez.

At featherweight, the great Wilfredo Gomez wasn't that overwhelming. And Ford had a good long jab and left uppercut. I think Ford was stronger at this weight. He even gave the great Salvador Sanchez a tougher fight than Gomez did. Ford wins on points.

Re: Sanchez v Gomez, totally different fight and an example why you can't always compare how two fighters did against the same opponent.
Gomez was a come-forward fighter - extremely overconfident that night - and perfect for Sanchez' superb counterpunching. Gomez never recovered from a bad first-round beating, I would have liked to have seen a rematch. Ford was a jabber with a height advantage who spent the Sanchez fight largely trying to keep Sanchez at bay, Sanchez did much better in the rounds when Ford came forward.
Re: Gomez v Ford. This is prime vs prime, and Gomez's prime was probably a year or so before the Sanchez fight. The height advantage would have been a problem, but IMO Gomez would have worked to smother Ford. Also, Gomez showed against LaPorte that he could box your ears off at 126 when he had to (The same LaPorte that, IMO, drew with your favorite Eusebio Pedroza, even though the judges scored it for Pedroza). Remember, Gomez was in a close fight with Azumah Nelson (judges had Gomez ahead) until a late KO, and Ford in no way punched as hard as Nelson.

Well, I differ to agree. Patrick Ford was an excellent fighter with a good old ass jab. Wilfredo Gomez as great that he was at Super bantamweight, wasn't a great puncher at 126lbs. He made up for it in upper classes by using his boxing skills, which were very underrated. But, he ain't outboxing Ford, who was tall for a featherweight. Ford was 5'10" or 5'9". Whichever the height, I can't see Bazooka outboxing him.

Did Gomez lost his punching power above 122lbs? Probably yes. He had to overwhelm and overpower you with a great accumulation of punches. That's how he used to win.

The great Eusebio Pedroza whupped Juan LaPorte outright. I admit that he was dirty against Juan, and that the referee did a terrible job, but Pedroza won the latter rounds down the stretch.
