Hatton v Urkal - Is ANYONE Interested?

Post by Graham Brett »

A german based Turk? v a Mancunian in the USA.

How are HBO gonna pay Hatton $6million and get a return.

It will be a miracle.

Any views?

Will certainly be interesting to see who else is on the card. Surely this will be tough to sell in the US.

Hope SKY don't try to PPV this..............

This is a really uninteresting fight.

FA and the Hatton's seem to want their fights PPV though so it will probably end up that way!

I recall reading somewhere that Hatton has a 3 fight deal with HBO but at anytime he chooses he can take a time out and have one fight back in England against whoever he wants.

Can anybody clarrify this? I'm not sure if i'm correct.

I would be surprised if HBO have given him carte blanche to with draw from their deal at any stage to fight in UK, although its plausable that they might grant him an off contract fight in the UK if the situation warranted it.

HBO are paying Hatton handsomely, they will want some control over Hattons itinary in return for their millions, especially following the Roy Jones 'mis-mandatories' era..

Urkal is about 15th on my list of desirable opponents.

1 - Mayweather
2 - Mosley
3 - DLH
4 - Margarito
5 - Cotto
6 - Castillo
7 - Corrales
8 - Tszyu II
9 - Judah
10- Gatti
11- Baldomir
12-Witter
13-Freitas
13-Collazo II
14-Harris
15-Urkal
16-MBaye
17-Torres
18-Corley
19-Rabah
20-NDou
21-......

I've probabl y missed one of.....

I'll ask this, would Urkal beat Takaloo? Would he beat Lovemore N'Dou? Would he beat......Urkal was a good fight five years ago - now he stinks and on the back of Maussa and Collazo he stinks even more.

You have Witter below Tszyu? It's been a year since he fought and he probably won't fight again.

I've also read the same article, think its over on Seconds Out. I'd welcome this fight to be over in the UK,if the fight is over in England i'd suppose it'd be at the Sheffield arena again & maybe with a Woods-Johnson on the undercard.

Oh come on man I just typed it off the cuff, give me a break.

Has Witter's stock risen more than Tsyzu's has fallen in the last twelve months, last time I checked he was struggling with Colin Lynes?

But Itake your point.

Tszyu would probably look shot if he fought Hatton again though. Alot of fans still want him to fight Witter.

Witter could of had just an off fight or two.

I heard Hatton had a one fight window away from HBO and this will be the fight.

FA can't be making much from it especially if it bombs on PPV, but Ricky will get his guarantee and that is all his fans are bothered about.

don't mind really, he's due an Urkal after 2 really tough title wins and one awkward one. Not dropping back to 140 tells me he's sticking around to get the Mayweather fight, god imagine the reaction from the PBF fans if he left welter after 1 fight there.

Absolutely no interest at all. And I'm sure HBO feel the same - it's a DOG of a fight.

I doubt it'll happen either. Hatton should stay at LW. Both he and Graham said how much better off he was at 140, so what's changed?

Take on Cotto in a superfight, or Castillo or Corrales in the meantime.

I think I can see what's happening. Hatton wants to keep his belts, and the only way to do so is to fight Urkal, it's an easy night's work, whilst treading water waiting for a bigger fight.

I don't see how HBO are going to swallow this one though, it's a crap fight, unless they think Hatton is popular enough to carry the PPV on his own, I know the collazo fight went down well with audiences stateside and the pundits were pretty glowing in the reviews I read of the fight.

If he wants to keep his belt after the Urkal fight dont he have to fight Joel Julio within 90 days of the Urkal fight?

Why not dump ALL the belts and make a good fight.

The IBF 140 belt was meant to make super-fights easier to make. It didn't and Hatton gave it up because he didn't like the mandatory.

The WBA 140 belt was meant to corner Cotto and Mayweather. It didn't and Hatton gave it up because he didn't like the mandatory.

The WBA 147 belt was meant to make Mayweather easier to find. It didn't.......................

Hatton could give up ALL the belts and face Castillo at 147 or 140 in three months, Corrales at 140 in three months........

Maybe I've too simplistic a view.

I think Hatton wants to keep a belt so he can negotiate with Mayweather, who is going to be an absolute bugger to deal with. This is the man who described a multi million dollar TV deal as 'slave wages.'

Without the belt, Mayweather might not even be interested, seeing as he is going around poaching belts where he can get them. Without the belt, Hatton will certainly find it a lot more difficult to negotiate a thick end of the wedge purse.

I think that is the source of all this. Although you don't need to have the belts to make big fights, it depends who it is you are looking to fight. Mayweather is one of those fighters you better be bringing a belt to the table or else accept a piss poor payday.

The title as a bargaining chip is a decent enough motive to hold on to it, but to my mind PBF is fixated with DLH at the moment and, barring DLH turning down all those millions, or negotiations falling apart due to egos (always possible), PBF won’t be even thinking about Hatton in the foreseeable.

To my mind Castillo (disgraced?) or Corrales are the perfect foils for Hatton while he waits for the smoke to clear.

I suppose it is just a waiting game though isn’t it? With HBO backing Hatton will get a compelling match sooner or later and the WBA title may just be the charm to see the $$s come his way.

Still, Urkal is a tough opponent to get excited about.

If it happens in September its a good keep busy fight, if it happens in November its another 6 months wasted. I can see he wants to keep the WBA belt, it either that or defending the WBU at 140 - which may reduce his stock.

PBF/DLH won't be available until December at the earliest. Castillo-Cotto may be fighting each other so they won't be availbale for sometime. Margarito/Harris/ - great fight but little money in it. Hatton doesnt want to give Witter a payday

Corrales is a possibility and should be the fight they go for but that would be for the WBU at 140, or no belt at 147.

Maybe they well go for Ukral in Sep followed by Corrales at 147 in NOV/DEC which would pretty impressive, unless a PBF/DLH fight can be made around that time.

Urkal is quite good, his had a few world title shots and given good accounts against Kostya and Harris.

I think Urkal is technically very good and could school Hatton like Collazo did.

Urkal was mandatory before Hatton won the title and should get his chance.

His got a good chin, Kostya couldn't hurt him, although Harris stopped him in a rematch for me Urkal won the first fight and got caught whilst not concentrating.

Interesting fight, one that Hatton could lose, I like Hatton, but his not a Lb for Lb fighter yet, and can learn more from these types of fights before stepping in with the big boys who could outclass him, like Collazo did at times.

As for PPV I reckon SKY will do a joint PPV with Woods defending his IBF LH title against Johnson, good card!!!

Urkal did not get caurgt in the 2nd fight, he was clearly outboxed and was finally stopped.

Don't think that Zab is looking to enforce it either way after the slapping he got.
Is Floyd free from his commitment to Zab? That was always a bit unclear to me. Does he have to take a rematch?

I reckon David Payne's list is interesting but a bit dangerous. Fair enough Mayweather, Mosely, but Oscar, Margarito and Cotto are different kettles of fish. All are bigger stronger men than Hatton and he doesn't need those sort yet awhile. Maybe Urkal might be the best move especially over here. I have a feeling that after some of the opinions on the Collazo fight, if Ricky gets wobbled by any big name over in the states a referee might jump in quick to ensure any titles stay over that side of the pond.
