Nice guy Floyd Sr puts a 2 mill price on his son's head.

Post by MightyWarrior »

In an interview conducted by David Mayo of The Grand Rapids Press, Floyd Mayweather Sr. is convinced his son (Floyd Jr) will get hurt if he fight Oscar De La Hoya. The Senior Mayweather who trains Oscar, last month said he wouldn't participate in any bout against his son, has had a changed of Heart.

Mayweather Sr told The Grand Rapids Press in regards to training Oscar to beat his Son: "I was trying to be a father by not going through with this thing. I hate to do it, I don't want it to happen, and I never wanted it to get this far. But I'll tell you something, if Oscar talks to me now about fighting my son, and if he comes up with the right digits for me, to where I'm comfortable with it, the fight is on."

What a swell dad he is! :D :TU:

He doesn't want to see his son hurt....but give him 2 mill and let's get it on baby!

Hilarious....you can see where Junior gets his personality from.

Anyway, with The Ego on board this fight looks a cert for late 06, leaving Ricky superfight-less at 147.

I think this fight would be a huge mistake for Floyd, especially with his power puff gloves on, he would not bea able ot stop DLH walking through his guard and dumping him on his ass.

Mayweather is a class above Oscar. A+ to DLH's A. But DLH is a (weight) class above Mayweather.

Don't be so sure, battering Mayorga and fighting Mayweather are not the same thing. Oscar will have advantages in physical strength and punch power, but Mayweather has far better movement, and better overall technique.

All a marketing campaign from the start?

Don't fancy PBF's chances at 154 though.

It took mayweather a long time to hurt Judah, can see him being able to hurt DLH at all, especially with the big gloves he uses to protect his hands. DLH is good enough to get close to Mayweather at some point in the fight, and I just dont see how Floyd gets out of that when it happens, besides I was less impressed by Floyd at 147 than at lower weights, and htis would just e a step too far against a fighter who is too good and compfortable at 154.

C'mon guys - this fight is pure theatre. It sells itself and will create headlines on the front as well as the back pages (in USA and Mexico at least)

Its a 'cant miss' blockbuster that will have us all debating the possible outcomes months ahead of the fight date - Its got to happen - surely?

Who says the fight will be at 154? I would be surprised if Floyd handed Oscar that advantage.

Floyd doesn't have to hurt Oscar to win, he can pick, poke and flurry, as Leonard did to Hagler. Floyd is good enough to cover up and block Oscar, he has a good orthodox defence.

Can Oscar still make Welterweight though? He looks solid at 11 stone and would even have a size advantage over Floyd at Welterweight.

Plus FLoyd has no power to keep DLH back and wouldn't be strong if Oscar pressure him.

Too true brother!! Mayweather Snr is just using the I don't wanna see my biy hurt angle to get more dollar for the fight!

He wouldn't be going into it if he didn't see a way for his boy to win.
If anybody knows DLH's strengths AND WEAKNESSES is old man Mayweather.

To follow this advice and exploit any weaknesses it'd take a FINE technician which PBF is. They think with SNR's knowledge and PBF's ability they will have DLH's number.

I'm not too convinced though. I'd see PBF KTFO by DLH, and SNR SOS ASAP :D

I think people have got to be realistic here. Oscar is still the biggest draw outside the Heavies in boxing. That means he will have the clout in the negotiations, so he will pick the weight.
With all due respect Mayweather might well be the new Leonard but DLH aint no Hagler he can move around a bit as well. During his career he has been hit by Trinidad, Quartey, Vargas, Myorga, Mosley, all bigger men and harder punchers than Floyd, and the only man to stop him was the relatively huge Hopkins. He may be getting older and slowing somewhat but it is a huge ask for Mayweather to avoid getting caught by Oscar at some stage of the fight, and that seems to be the problem for him.

Seems like leaving out the bit he knew did Floyd Junior a favour as he's a better fighter than his dad by far.

only advantage dlh has is that he's bigger. i don't think he's ever performed at mayweather's level, he's not capable of it

Well, I wouldn't say there is a huge gulf in talent, but Mayweather is a far better all around fighter. DLH has shown his limitations in fights with Mosley and Trinidad, but his physical gifts, and strengths as a fighter have generally been enough to prevail against what is after all pretty strong opposition.

Thats true; he has the better physical tools then 'pops' and having only seen Floyd Snr's fight with Sugar Ray, I can safely say Jnr is a far superior exponent of the game...

but who knows if Snr's encyclopedic knowledge of his son's style, coupled with his lifetime's worth of experience, maybe just enough to give DLH the edge to 'shoe shine' his way to a controversial dec.?

it makes an interesting and colourful angle to the fight.

Floyd can do it.

He's sparred with big guys all his life. I know the two are different (sparring and fighting) but nonetheless, if Floyd takes this fight, it will be becuase he believes he can win, and that is enough for me to back him.

Mosley = Lightweight

Floyd = Lightweight and better skills wise than Mosley.

Mosley had fewer skills but better strength and power then lil' floyd at 9st 9lbs.

They present different problems but at 154lbs DLH has enough advantages to make a fight of it with the loud mouthed squirt...

the lightweight mosley was very very good. shame he never beat a really good opponent at lightweight. stevie johnston was fighting tougher foes, and nazarov was better than both of 'em.

mosley was a definite physical force, but oh so wild. there was something always over the top about him, as if he felt more is better.

mayweather, on the other hand, has become a master of economy. really compact & accurate. i wonder who would've won had they fought prime for prime, as mayweather wasn't a hugely impressive l/w

A father training a fighter to batter his own son is a serious black eye for boxing. The sport does not need it and i dont want to see it.

However, i do want to see De La Hoya v Mayweather, a fight which i am convinced De La Hoya will win comfortably at 147 or 154.

If boxing is a sport and not a street fight whats the problem. It's black eye for fatherhood more than the sport. Remember Senior isn't actually fighting.

Do you also suggest Phil Neville withdraw from matches against brother Gary?

Should Alex Ferguson step down if Man Utd draw son Darren's Wrexham team in the FA Cup.

I think all this is sanctimonious clap-trap to be honest. The sport receives no black eye, only Senior Mayweather.

It's sport, not a knife fight.
