Canelo is fading too and he will likely fade more due to the extra weight.

Now here we have the 5'8 Canelo, who hasn't kayoed any one at 160 lbs (Fielding was a joke) adding 15lbs to his frame and will supposedly be able to hurt Kovalev. Don't believe the hype.

If he is still a proud Russian and not a broken drunk. I do hope that he has enough pride left.

I can see this fight ending one way. With another one of Buddy McGirt's speeches that he can't let Kovalev take any more punishment.

Exactly. A proud Russian is not affected by just one bottle.

Not exactly. Hearns actually had 3 fights at super middle (all world title fights) before moving up to light heavy. At light heavy Hearns fought 2 tune-ups against tomato cans before successfully challenging WBA light heavy champ Virgil Hill in his 3rd bout at 175. After losing that belt, Tommy moved up to cruiser until he retired in 2006.

Leonard went from middleweight to 165 where he fought WBC light heavy champ Don Lalonde for the vacant WBC super middle title & for Lalonde's WBC light heavy title. After that he fought Hearns in a super middle unification bout, then returned to middle & super welter.

canelo is quick with good defense, he doesn't give anything away, but will be at a reach disadvantage.
canelo probably hopes to pot shot and then pour it on down the stretch. i don't see kovalev getting tired unless he's made to work, and kov has more power in a firefight.
i favour kov, he may well get canelo hurt in a few rounds, and take a decision.
Yes, I wouldn't rule out a kovalev decision despite Canelo history of favourable decisions, it's quite possible that it's a pretty obvious win for kovalev.

I kind of expect an upset (Kovalev to win) What I do NOT understand is why do the odds have Canelo a 4-1 Favorite?
Is it as simple as people think Canelo will get the decision if he deserves it or not? And his chin will not let him get knocked out?

That was Hearns 2nd visit to Lightheavy, the first time he went straight from middle to Lightheavy and then back down

The same principles apply to Canelo.
Here fight streaks which are examples of that consistency:

Edwin Rodriguez
Paul Smith
Sullivan Barrera
Alexander Brand

Amir Khan
Liam Smith

Your comments bear no relation to the content of my post you quoted, since you've presented those sentences out-of-context for which they were originally written.

That being said, if you insist on misrepresenting my actual thoughts and also employing straw man debating tactics, by changing the topic under discussion, because you're unable to challenge my actual words in their entirety, then on this occasion I’m more than happy to oblige.

Are you that confident of being able to successfully win an argument about GGG having faced superior calibre opposition to the names that Andre Ward and Canelo faced?

Do you really want to go down that route?

My bad!! I forgot that Hitman held the world light heavy title TWICE. The TKO of Andries in 1987 & the UD over Virgil Hill in 1991. :box:

I mean I know Kov is vulnerable and all that, but he's no bum and Canelo aint been stopping his top level opposition even at 160. Even at 154 he was really more a cumulative thudding puncher.
Who are those smart boxing ppl?
What were their picks for Gvozdyk vs Beterbiev?

I picked beterbiev and Taylor, therefore im on an unbreakable hot streak. I like canelo by decision. Unless kov is totally shot Alvarez isnt stopping him

We will have to wait and see what sort of power Avlaroid brings to this fight, going from the weigh in pictures, he has packed on a bit of beef. It will be interesting to see if that affects his stamina if it goes late or the distance.

Too many boxing politics at stake for anything other than a Canelo decision. Maybe a MD/SD (or even an attentional late stoppage) due to Kov's record but at this stage of his career he's been picked by the Canelo team for a reason...
Timing of the fight is all wrong for Kov and call me cynical but I can't see the organ grinders allowing anything other than a Canelo win.

Hearns was 6 foot 1 with an 82 inch reach, and had freakish power. He had the upper body of a cruiserweight and the legs of a lightweight.

Canelo is nothing like hearns.

That is my greatest fear.
It seems every close fight the ginger one is in, he gets the nod from the judges (Lara, GGG#1 etc)
For once, I would like the cards to reflect the fight.
I'm a dreamer, aren't I?

Yesterday Dougie Fischer, The RING, made the following prediction that I also made more than six weeks ago:

I believe the number of KO predictions for Canelo has more to do with the biases against both fighters than it does with the Mexican star’s punching power or Kovalev’s inability to take a punch (to the head or body).

I think some fans are saying Canelo will blowout Kovalev to discredit him regardless of the outcome. They don’t want to give him credit for stepping up to light heavyweight, so they claim that Kovalev is “shot.” They don’t want to give him credit for beating Kovalev (if he’s able to), so they say he’ll blast the light heavyweight veteran out early (or easily). If he does that, they can say “See, we told you Kovalev was a spent bullet.”

If Canelo doesn’t stop Kovalev, or if he struggles to stop him, they will say “Alvarez sucks, he had a hard time with an old, shot fighter.”

And if Kovalev loses a decision, but legitimately wins four rounds, they’ll score it a draw or 7 rounds to 5 for Kovalev, and say that Canelo got a gift.

And they’re all mad at me for seeing through their bulls__t and calling them on it. And guess what? Those fools can stay vexed.

Calzaghe did also,Spinks went to heavy in one fight. It happens rarely but elite fighters manage to make it because they have the skills, chin etc to make up for the weight differences
