Kell hungers after title.

Post by emma »

KELL Brook is being groomed for a title shot within the next four months.

The Hillsborough welterweight is beginning to realise the potential and trust successive trainers have placed in him.
He took wily Welsh journeyman Geraint Harvey to pieces in a show last week at Barnsley Metrodome - and is now in the shape of his life after conquering weight issues.
Handler Dave Coldwell thinks he is one fight away from being pitched into a title encounter.
"Kell was bang on the weight at 10st 7lbs and really let fly against an opponent who knows his way around the ring," he said.
"He knocked Harvey down in the second and the guy soon decided he'd had enough and quit in the third.
"Harvey has been in with some big punchers in the past and done okay against them. So to see him winching at the power of Kell's shots was quite an eye-opener.
"Kell picked his shots really well and you could hear them hammering home.
"We hope to get Kell on a bill at Manchester on July 15 and if that goes well there could be a title bash round about September.

It's all well and good taking apart journeymen, but how will he fare against someone who is willing to take it to him. I was impressed with his wins over Ernie Smith, who may have a bad record, but never takes a backward step and is as tough as they come.

What weight does the lad fight at these days. Everytime i seem to hear about him, he's moved up a division.

10st 7lbs.... how about a fight against the Mutt!

Dave didnt specify a title, it probably means an Area title. Ross is the English champion, and i think he would take Kell to school.

yeh i agree i mean hes only fought journeymen so far. surely he needs some tougher opponents before going for a title.

he fights at welterweight now.

personally i think muttley would win kell right now. :TU:

to be honest if kell is in shape and boxing well he should be able to easily beat the likes of muttley and minter - talent and skill wise he's on a totally different level.

but the truth is that there's precious little evidence of any improvement whatsoever since he left the Ingles - in fact, he seems to be going backwards. if he'd stayed at wincobank and stayed committed he'd already be ahead of the likes of minter et al ... as it stands, these guys are 50/50 fights for him - at best.

personally i'd be surprised to see brook ever win a meaningful title. i could be wrong - i hope i am - but i just don't see it happening now and i think SN know that he aint gonna do it coz they won't push him harder than the likes of Ernie Smith and Geraint Harvey.

Seen Harvey box quite a few times and to blow thru him as it appears that Kell did shows talent.

He is still quite young though isnt he? Time is still on his side..

Kell aint good enough to beat Muttley, no chance. It's one thing looking good against the run of the mill journeymen, it's a totally different thing taking on the ex british champ. He may be a good kid but don't get carried away just now. There are a few untested welterweights out there at the moment, Minter, Doherty, even Mat Hatton, get these guys to line up against each other and see what they've got, the winner goes in against Kev Anderson. The wee man could do with an easy defence. :TU:
