Like, an opponent in the p4p conversation--fighters who are seen as being at a level where they are considered among the best in boxing even beyond their division. Guys who would appear in top 10 p4p lists for example

Stevenson wasn't on many lists, but he was in the vicinity.

To be honest, I can not remember. It was long time ago. I am not sure if Wlad had any of the top 10 p4p opponents.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑04 Nov 2019, 14:31 Like, an opponent in the p4p conversation--fighters who are seen as being at a level where they are considered among the best in boxing even beyond their division. Ah, ya, maybe that, though some funky size stuff in that one
Re: When was the last time an Eastern European/USSR beat a p4p opponent?
By stoppage? Otherwise Kovalev - Ward 1, GGG - Canelo 1, or do the rematches nix them? Provodnikov - Bradley was basically determined by ref. Usyk's CW run is about as good as it gets for quality wins in opponents prime.

Lately, most of top boxers are trying to avoid high risk matchups. The only recent examples of victories over top 10 p4p fighters were
Wangek over Gonzalez
Ward over Kovalev
Canelo over GGG
The last two are of course tainted.

I'll give you Gvozdyk > Stevenson but Linares & Walters were not P4P fighters. I intentionally left out Spence > Garcia and Loma > Rigondeaux for the same reason. Both Mikey & Rigo were legit top 10 P4P at the time but both were moving up 2 weight divisions and had little realistic chance to win.Cent0089 wrote: ↑05 Nov 2019, 09:36Best Coast wrote: ↑05 Nov 2019, 03:06

Gvozdyk victory over Stevenson is also something to mention. Lomachenkos victory over Rigondeaux, Linares and Walters, and of course Usyk cruiserweight run. Some of eastern european boxers are pretty impressive, some of them not. Just like american boxers, mexican boxers..... Also, despite i am big Canelo fan, he lost first fight with Golovkin, but that topic was here milion times

With all due respect isn't that supposed to be the point of the P4P list. That they can move up a weight class or two and compete because they're just that good?Best Coast wrote: ↑05 Nov 2019, 21:04I'll give you Gvozdyk > Stevenson but Linares & Walters were not P4P fighters. Yes and no. When a smaller fighter is also lower on the P4P list then he is at a double disadvantage in moving up in weight. In both those cases Mikey & Rigo were significantly lower on the P4P list than Spence or Loma were.gilgamesh wrote: ↑07 Nov 2019, 01:13With all due respect isn't that supposed to be the point of the P4P list. In Canelo's case, he moved up 2 weight divisions but he is also much closer to his prime than the faded Kovalev. Unfortunately the P4P list does not factor in what fighters are closer to their prime. When Canelo at 29 beats Kovalev at 36 it has about as much significance as 29-year-old Lomachenko beating 37-year-old Rigondeaux. It reduces the significance of the victory to a certain extent.
Re: When was the last time an Eastern European/USSR beat a p4p opponent?
Canelo's win over Kovalev is a lot bigger than Loma's win over Rigo to me. At least on paper.Best Coast wrote: ↑07 Nov 2019, 02:46Yes and no. Don't you jizz to Spence's win over Mikey?
Re: When was the last time an Eastern European/USSR beat a p4p opponent?
When was the last time a black male American won an Olympic Gold medal in boxing?
All the way back to David Reid in 1996! 23 years ago!
(And no Andre Ward is not Black, that's just as dumb as calling him white)

Nice try!! I've known and gone to school with many Nigerians over the years and some of them are no darker than Ward.
Muhammad Ali also had white ancestors in his family tree. Are you saying he wasnt black either?
