Franchise belt.
Franchise belt.
What exactly is the WBC Franchise belt?
What does the word franchise mean in terms of a boxing trophy?
Who can fight for it?

Re: Franchise belt.
Nobody can fight for it, it is more of an ambassadorship.
If a Franchise Champion is beaten the victor does not become Franchise Champion.

Thanks for that Lee. Is there any actual point of the belt then?leejonesjnr wrote: ↑04 Nov 2019, 07:48 Nobody can fight for it, it is more of an ambassadorship.

I just wish a star of Canelo's stature would throw all of his belts in the trash.
And just say they're a joke and they just suck the money from the sport.

Re: Franchise belt.
Haha yeh,but someone did it to save paying the sanctioning fees and just called themselves the champ.
Re: Franchise belt.
At first I thought the 'franchise' tag was just the WBC saying that Canelo was their champion, the face of the WBC or an equivalent to p4p.
But then they made Loma franchise champion and there are rumours they might bestow the title on the Wilder/Fury winner.
So I have no idea what the point is in it other than pandering to big name fighters and/or promoters.

Re: Franchise belt.
Ya, once they get upgraded to franchise they no longer have WBC mandatories. So for example, Haney just became Loma's mandatory and that looked an interesting fight, but now since Loma became franchise, they just also upgraded Haney to full WBC and took his mandatory status away.

It's literally as if they're going out their way to fukk the sport up at timesmargaret thatcher wrote: ↑04 Nov 2019, 14:07Ya, once they get upgraded to franchise they no longer have WBC mandatories. The closest examples I can think of is Groves refusing to pay for the IBO and Cotto refusing to pay for WBC

A load of pish so it is, say Commey fights Lomachenko and wins, then he wont become undisputed because Loma can't lose his Franchise belt and technically Haney is full champ, pretty impressive from We Be Crooks to outworse the WBA
Re: Franchise belt.
The WBChave pretty much said Loma can be undisputed, but I agree with Haney on this one, Loma has in effect vacated the belt, and he has to beat both Commey and Haneyhandsofstone wrote: ↑04 Nov 2019, 15:29 A load of pish so it is, say Commey fights Lomachenko and wins, then he wont become undisputed because Loma can't lose his Franchise belt and technically Haney is full champ, pretty impressive from We Be Crooks to outworse the WBA
Saying that WBC are trying to outdo WBA. They seem to be on a roll ATM. They just announced Fury who had a signed contract as Wilders voluntary, has now been upgraded to mandatory. Not sure how that can work though when the contract was already signed, unless this means anew contract is needed and there won't be a rematch clause
But it seems like Wilder will probably never face a legitimate mandatory on his way to becoming franchise champ
