Vitali Klitschko Investigated: Claims of Treason, Embezzlement

According to RT News, former world champion Vitali Klitschko is facing some issues on the political side of things.

Klitschko, who serves as the mayor of Kiev, has been targeted by country's National Anti-Corruption Bureau.

According to the report, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau have gone after Klitschko and two of his deputies following complaints by the Ukrainian MPs who allege the trio of abuse of power during the reconstruction of a bridge in the capital - with claims that they deliberately overstated the amount of funds used in the project.

Klitschko was also accused of treason, with allegations of using Kiev’s budget to illegally enrich private individuals, unauthorized land grab and other wrongdoings.

Klitschko has denied all of the allegations - and dismissed the claims of treason as “laughable.”

The former fighter has been at odds with the administration of Ukraine’s new president, Volodymyr Zelensky.

The government approved the president’s request for Klitschko to be fired from his political position in July. But, Klitschko argued that the decision was illegal and filed a lawsuit against it, which is still being considered.

Russia Today as a source should definitely ring some alarm-bells to the credability of the allegations. And given his reformist and pro-Ukranian stances politically , I can imagine he's made some people quite unhappy. But then again, anything is possible and he may have got caught up in some corrupt culture.

Whatever, given the focus on Washington/Ukraine at the moment, this story is sure to stay on the news ticker.
