Gallen v Hall

Post by fox »

Talk today that Gallen v Hall is locked in for November 15 in Melbourne. Also on the card are the Maloney brothers. One is fighting for an Interim title and the other is defending his WBA Oceania title. I think Danny Green Is promoting but not sure on that.

I suppose any publicity is good publicity and if this gives boxing main stream attention its good. And i must say i have found most of Gallen's bouts entertaining but to have the Moloney boys as the undercard is hard to swallow. I would've liked to have seen Gallen v Hall as a main attraction with the boys headlining. Greeny promoting is good. He put some great shows on in his day in Perth. Would be great to see some big cards back on TV - tell me this wont be a $50 PPV !!!!

Yes agreed. Gallen v Hall should definitely be the undercard. Gallen can fight a bit as he’s so tough and always very fit. His skills have improved. I’ve been told that Barry Hall can fight a bit also so it looks like a good fight on paper.

The Daily Telegraph put out this little blurb about the about:
Paul Gallen’s intent towards his upcoming battle of the codes fight with Barry Hall has been highlighted by a training camp in England with that country’s heavyweight champion.

Gallen, who packs 103kg into a compact 183cm frame, has sought out 198cm British champion Hughie Fury in northern England so he can become accustomed to boxing a taller opponent.

Hall stands 194cm and despite never having fought professionally, is seen by some good judges as having too much skill, too much hand speed and too much reach for Gallen.

Former world champion Danny Green has been impressed by Gallen’s commitment.

“He landed there four days ago and sparred Hughie Fury the first day which shows just how serious he is. Fury is extremely talented, just off a world championship belt,” fight promoter Green said.

“Paul said to me, ‘People think I’m just a rugby league guy who likes boxing but I’m fair dinkum about this and I will not be losing this fight’.

“I have been in the ring with both. Gallen is a raw, in-your-face fighter who is improving all the time. In saying that, Barry’s boxing IQ is exceptional, but will his engine stand up to six two-minute rounds?

The fight is scheduled for Friday, November 15, at Margaret Court Arena on a night where brilliant super flyweight Andrew “The Monster” Moloney takes on Elton Dharry for the WBA title.
PPV for six short rounds, well the supports will need to be pretty red hot apart from the Andrew Moloney stoush!

be interesting to see who wanted the female 2 minute round time., someones doubts their ability to contest the full 3 minute rounds, bet it's not Gallen.

The card for this event has yet to be entered into BoxRec.

That's cutting it a bit fine to drum up publicity!

This clash of the titans is now scheduled as a 4 rounder, presumed at 3 minutes per round.

Gallen has been calling Barry noodles cause he wants 2minute rounds. So not too sure if it is over 3s. Wouldn’t think it would be 4x2 but who knows.

Hall has raised some interesting points about Gallen's abbreviated career (thanks to his NRL obligations) and the rather selective opposition:
"Let's put this in a bit of perspective.
Gallen’s first fight was a 4 rounder against a guy that was 1 win 1 loss.
Gallen’s 2nd fight was a 4 rounder against a guy who was 1-0!
3rd fight 4 rounder.
4th fight was a guy with no fights on debut!!
5th fight was the only time he fought anyone with more than 2 fights over 5 rounds.
6th fight he fought a guy on debut for 3 rounds!
7th fight he fought a 6 rounder against a guy with 2 fights!
8th fight 6 rounder against another fighter on debut!!
9th was hoppa and was totally unfit.

Did see Gallen respond to Hall's criticisms and some of it was justified.

At the end of the day though, Gal has been doing this as a side-note. Of course his opponents have been, at least to some extent, hand-picked. He's going to pick guys that are beatable.

And well, full-time boxers have been to hand-pick worse than this too.

I did find the 2min Noodles joke slightly amusing, the rest of their trash talk, meh.

I watched Gallen beat Herman in Toowoomba. He was very impressive and Herman has since beaten former Australian Heavyweight Champ Willie Nasio. Gallen is no slouch cause he’s so tough and fit. His skills have improved also. Hall has looked good in training but the bag doesn’t hit back. I think it looks like a good fight.

I'd happily watch it as a live Fox Sports card, but not PPV

What do people think will happen in this fight?

It won't be an easy fight to referee, but in my mind the referee may well play a crucial role, will Gallen be allowed to work on the inside or will the referee break them up. I can so Barry Hall doing a lot of holding, will this be allowed?

On another note it seems a shrewd way of introducing many new fans to the Moloney brothers, only pity for me is that their opposition looks so weak, I know the promoters want them both to keep winning but surely a higher level of opponent would have been a better way of showcasing their talents to the public that will be going along this night?

I’m thinking Gallen beats him. He has pro fight experience and can take a whack and get up. Hall is a complete wildcard, seen him drop some boys in footy but never in the ring. He’s also old. There were mummerings for years that hall should take up a boxing career, so he might have some talent.

But I’m thinking that Gallens proven experience should overcome the unknown. Not really thinking about the height difference as I’m counting on hall not being able to keep him off. Who knows. I’m watching.

I called the draw post-fight, due to there being a few close rounds. Gallen destroys Hall in a legit, 3 minute round fight. Hall is pretty amazing for a 42 year old novice though.

We had a good night. I thought Gallen should have won as did everyone else aroubd me. Imust admit though that Halls ringcraft and footwork were amazing. As for the Moloneys it was the first time I have seen them live and they are world class, no doubt.
All in all a good night,

Had Hall done any boxing or boxing training before this was made? If not then that was actually really good stuff from him, definitely could've been a good boxer.

I had hall 4-2 . Gallen was mostly punching air. Hall tagged gallen with that left hook everytime he threw it.

As a junior, Hall was an amatuer Victorian champion. Regardless of that though, for him to move like he did, at 42 years of age, is pretty bloody good.

Thought Gallen won 5 rounds but credit to both. It was an ok stoush. I can see why the ref is irrelevant on the big fight scene now. He can’t hold the fighters up for so long in 2 minute rounds.
Awesome night for the Maloney boys against very good opponents. Hopefully Greeny starts putting on cards like these more frequently. I’ll
