NYSAC procedures in 1970's

Post by dalcumly »

I wonder if anyone can shed a light on certain procedures in relation to big fights in New York in the late 60's and early 70's particularly in relation to boxing gloves used.
Can I put forward a suggestion which is based on some information and guesswork.
I believe that Everlast would bring 2 pairs of gloves for the big fight to the offices of the NYSAC some days before the event. The NYSAC officials would examine the gloves and stamp them approved. They would then take the gloves to MSG on the night.
At some point during the evening they'd take the gloves to the respective dressing rooms and let the boxers try them on. Each boxer or their team would sign the gloves somewhere so that when they got into the ring the NYSAC officials could give each boxer the 'correct' gloves. These were the days when for the big fights the gloves were handed out in the ring.
Everlast have been sold 3 times since so I would get no update there. Finding anyone still around from the NYSAC is remote I think.
Any knowledge or suggestion would be much appreciated.
