Which website did you gather list list from? Because sporteology has an article detailing the same list (also citing TV ratings), claiming that their 'source of information is the websites which are being searched or browsed most in America. '

Meanwhile, sportytell claims that boxing is the eighth most trending sport in the US, which uses precisely the same criteria.

What really matters is Nielsen's ratings (i.e. in July, baseball’s average viewers were 198K, but this is clearly dwarfed by several boxing events).

The title of the list seems at odds with the criteria used to produce it.

Why consider the following (when we’re supposed to only be considering audience figures for sports televised in the US)?
Global Fan Base and Audience
• Viewership on TV (worldwide?)
• TV Rights Deals
• Popularity on Internet
• Presence on Social Media
• Number of Professional Leagues in the World
• Average Salary of Athletes in the Top Leagues
• Sponsorship Deals
• Number of Countries in Which the Sport is Popular
Biggest Competition
• Relevancy Throughout the Year
Gender Equality
• Access to the General Public
• Number of Amateur Players in The World
• The prominence of the sport in sports headlines on print and electronic media

The list is utter nonsense.

I didn't say or imply that. Read what I wrote again, review the criteria and pay attention next time.

Yeah, the title of the list is contradicted by the criteria used for formulate it.

I'd also argue that we should only consider Nielsen's figures if we're specifically discussing TV ratings.

No need to scrutinize your posts too closely, a quick glance tells the tale. Like last week when you were blubbering on and on about 1 million dazn viewers in Japan completely oblivious to the fact that Inoue does many times that for every fight. A few dozen channels across the country televise baseball every night and they all do more than that. It's OK, nobody expects you to know what you're talking about. :TU:

You've just provided two examples of claims you think I made that I didn't.

If English isn't your first language, then I suppose I shouldn't be overly-critical of you. :TU:

LMFAO! I thought I read that EO said boxing events "dwarfed" MLB views. I could cut and paste it if anyone wants!

The MLB on FOX package averaged 2.403 million viewers, marking an +8% increase over last year and its highest average since 2012 (2.536 million) based on Nielsen Fast Nationals. ESPN Sunday Night Baseball averaged 1.601 million viewers, an increase of +2% over last year's average of 1.572 million

No I didn't say that. The average for a particular sporting event is not the same as the total of audience figures the sport receives over a time period (i.e. a lot of sporting events watched by 200K viewers = a lot of fans of the sport!).

I can't believe I had to explain that, but I guess you have to consider the type of people responding to my posts.

Comparing baseball where there are 2,430 games to a few boxing events makes no sense whatsoever if you are judging on TV ratings.

A smarter way would be to look at what ad buy costs are for an ESPN baseball game and an ESPN boxing match and average them out over a year. That would give a good idea of which has more viewers on an average basis all things equal

But in a nutshell:

ESPN 2 Braves v cards game had 1.32mm viewers. It aired opposite the NBA conference finals game that pulled 1.02mm

So I think it is relatively safe to say MLB is more popular than the NBA and that call me crazy it gets more viewers in the US than boxing
