It’s no coincidence that Tyson Fury made this announcement considering there are only three fights remaining of his contract with ESPN/Top Rank.

‘The Gypsy King’ could easily earn decent paydays engaging in one-off circus event type bouts in the WWE & UFC. He’s also a wealthy man that doesn’t really need the money.

Fury might have also made this bold claim as merely a negotiating tactic to compel the various networks to provide him with a lucrative contract in order to extend his career, because if he beats Wilder and then overcomes the victor of the Ruiz Jr-AJ rematch, his commercial worth will be astronomical on both sides of the pond.

Tyson would only be 32 years of age by the time he’s completed the remaining three fights of his deal with ESPN & Top Rank, so I suspect he’ll very likely change his mind by then, assuming he remains unbeaten in the meantime.

Tyson Fury has a lot of potential to have a HoF career, and I absolutely can't stand people like that who want to retire 5 years prematurely and flush away their nearly dead certified shot at immortality. I get that boxing is a dangerous sport and it can turn you into a vegetable. But I don't think there's a reason to suspect that Fury is at an overwhelmingly high risk of becoming a vegetable with his 20-something fights and no losses.

Then again, I can't criticize Riddick Bowe for getting out early. That dude retired early as hell, and he still can't talk right.

If his next three opponents are Wilder, Ruiz/Joshua winner and Usyk then that would be a great ending to any career.

But that is just wishful thinking.

I remember him many years ago saying his next three fights will be Haye, V Klit and W Klit. For one reason or another only one of those fights happened and that was many years later.

I agree ... He used to call Klitchko boring, but everyone now miss klitchkos. Fury has become one boring element, he really not sure what he needs to do with his career.

I really think that Wilder's fight changed him. He has never before felt this kind of power.

Fury was never going to have a long, glittering career fighting all comers. He’s barely made a defence of any title he has ever held, and didn’t make a single defence of the world title. He’s a good fighter but not a good champion.
Look at his so called lineal defences!

Funny, I heard an interview this morning on WFAN radio with George Foreman. He said that the rematch won't happen. Said, "one's scared, and one's glad."

If he were to make the three fights count, that would be plenty. But, I think we all know that chances are against that happening...

Tyson will have an excuse for the February Wilder date. Then take an easy fight in April.
He will continue to call Wilder a Dosser and say he is scared to fight him. Then another easy fight in October

Yeah, that's a big pity, that he's wasting time. He achieved a good position in the division after Wilder. But then there was that Arum contract, which made him fight the lesser opposition. And then goddamn WWE.
