Hector Camacho. Huge WWF fan that originally got into boxing via USA Network Tuesday Night Fights.

Agree. I had the pleasure of meeting him around 2001. I was only a casual fan at the time but started following boxing not long after.

RJJ became my favorite for a while. Then I started following Tito. He became my favorite fighter quickly. I've had other favorites. But none as much as Tito. His fight with Vargas is still one of my favorites to this day.

Honestly it was watching movies like rocky which eventually turned my attention towards the real thing. The first super fight I ever watched was Hagler vs Leonard in 1987. Then I slowly started becoming more of an avid fan.

Re: What boxer got you into boxing?
Harry Greb. My Dad and Pap both seen him fight many times and talked about him non-stop up until both of them died.
Both said he was a freak of nature. They said there will never be another like him ever. Wish I could have seen
him fight. Al Avant was a tough club fighter who was friends with my uncle Lew. He was always fun to watch fight around here.

It was the Minter v Hsgler fight. It was a terrible scene after and Minter came across as a prick in the build up, I was glad Hagler made a mess of him and was keen to see what he did next.

After further thought, it was the 1972 Munich Olympics and a little known fighter named Jesse Valdez. He was a fast fighter with a terrific jab. I remember the flashing of the white colored fronts of the gloves really got me for some reason. Unfortunately, only Sugard Ray Seales won gold that year fo the US, but I was fully taken.

The return of Ali in 70 because that's all anyone seemed to be talking about. I watched some boxing in the 60's, but couldn't tell you who it was.
Re: What boxer got you into boxing?
Yup. And from the Pan AM games the year before. Followed the lad from then to his demolishing at the hands of NOrton.Tony1244 wrote: ↑13 Nov 2019, 22:44Do you remember Bobick from the Olympics that year?oogiebe wrote: ↑13 Nov 2019, 17:57 After further thought, it was the 1972 Munich Olympics and a little known fighter named Jesse Valdez. Re: What boxer got you into boxing?
Wish I could see the Bobick-Stevenson bouts. Don't see them anywhere.
To condense posts, Don't you think Ali held a lot in the Thrilla as well?
