Lomachenko : Canelo bypassed Beterbiev and Bivol.
Lomachenko : Canelo bypassed Beterbiev and Bivol.
Loma is very critical about the way Canelo chose Kovalev. He thinks Kovalev has passed his prime, and Canelo had to choose Bivol or Beterbiev if he wanted to become a genuine LHW champion. What do you think ?

Re: Lomachenko : Canelo bypassed Beterbiev and Bivol.
Many others have pointed out that Alvarez chose the weakest of the 3 world champs at 175 so that's nothing new.
But Loma going out of his way to belittle Canelo's world title victory in his 4th different weight division sounds like sour grapes. First off, it shows how much the mythical title of best P4P fighter means to Loma because of the way he belittles Canelo's feat. Many now consider Canelo higher than Loma in the mythical P4P "ranking."
Second, it's rather hypocritical because Loma has never shown any aspiration to win his 4th world title in different weight classes by fighting one of the 140-pound world champs, now limited to Ramirez & Taylor.
I dont expect Canelo to respond to Loma's sour grapes. He couldnt care less about the P4P trash-talk of a little 135-pounder. If it was someone closer to Canelo's size he might well respond but why pay attention to the sour grapes of a little guy like Loma?

Re: Lomachenko : Canelo bypassed Beterbiev and Bivol.
TBF loads of people were saying Canelo chose Kov strategically based on him looking a faded fighter, and also hence why Canelo was as much a fave as he was. Is it much different than Loma just thinking that too...
I still rate it as a really good win though, far far better than anything Loma's done lately. Ant Crolla

Re: Lomachenko : Canelo bypassed Beterbiev and Bivol.
Whether you like him or not, Loma is correct. The same can be said for what RRJ did when he moved up to HW and took on Ruiz. I was an RJJ fan and can accept that that he took on the lightest touch. It's obvious Canelo took the easy route to win a title. Another title is good for his brand and will look good in the history books. Kovalev's name looks good. But the real boxing fans know better.
Re: Lomachenko : Canelo bypassed Beterbiev and Bivol.
IT's still an impressive win. So what he took the easiest of the three, doesn't make it easy. It was still a risk, proven by the fact that he was behind when he scored the ko. Loma maybe should step up his game before casting aspersions. And anyone on here who knows me also knows I'm no big Canelo fan.

To me he's just saying pretty much what loads of people were, it's really not that big of deal. Though he has to look at himself and wonder if beating a guy like Roman Martinez made him a true 130 champ and that stuff. The number of guys who got their belts beating the legit #1 in the division is very few, and includes Loma

Ya I think that's right
Re: Lomachenko : Canelo bypassed Beterbiev and Bivol.
Not sure I agree
What do you think the ring weight is of Linares or Campbell?
If you put in a rehydration clause like Canelo, not only is it dangerous for your opponent, but you are fixing the size of your opponent (obviously)
Many took a look at Campbell and pegged him around 154lbs on the night
We either call rigondeaux a great win or we acknowledge Campbell/Linares as great wins
Which is it?
For me Campbell is a better win than an aging Kovalev who was selling his belt

Behind on whose card? Certainly not the Vegas judges:oogiebe wrote: ↑20 Nov 2019, 20:04 IT's still an impressive win. So what he took the easiest of the three, doesn't make it easy. 95-95
Canelo was ahead on two of the cards after round 10...
So surely that proves the converse, I.e. it wasn't a risk?

Basically what I'm hearing here is jealousy that Canelo gets more attention than him.

Re: Lomachenko : Canelo bypassed Beterbiev and Bivol.
But it’s the 3 judges that matter at the end of 12 rounds mate.
Re: Lomachenko : Canelo bypassed Beterbiev and Bivol.
It was a good win by Canelo on paper, and a good performance all in all (losing the battle to win the war and all that).
But the short camp for Kovalev, the rehydration clause and the fact the judges appeared to be in his pocket again do tarnish the win somewhat.
Picking Kovalev was about finding a champion at a stage of his career that they would accept such unfavourable terms.
I like Loma and agree with the point he makes here. but Canelo's record is non of his concern and it looks like he is using the bigger man's name to get a bit of attention.

Take it easy guys. Canelo would fight Beterbiev too but first Beterbiev needs to look like Kovalev looked before he fought Canelo. So we should wait a few years.

Bivol is too young now.

Bivol is too young now.
Canelo not only learned the defence from floyd, but also the waiting game.
Re: Lomachenko : Canelo bypassed Beterbiev and Bivol.
Putting aside much of the original post, the point about being a 4 weight world champion is incorrect.
Both Canelo and Lomachenko have won recognised world titles at 3 weights. Unless I've missed something?

Loma just repeated what a bunch of other people said. If you don't like him, you must have other reasons.

Yup, he learnt how to get all the advantages on his side and how to master the timing of how to cherrypick the right type of valuable opponents for him.RonnyJ wrote: ↑21 Nov 2019, 09:06apollo creed wrote: ↑21 Nov 2019, 05:42 Take it easy guys. Haters will hate regardless. A win over a guy who came there thinking that he had no chances and fought like a girl is better than any of Loma's wins???
