Hagler-Leonard...what if this fight would have been in 1982?

Post by elmersalsa »

We all saw the Leonard-Hagler fight that until this day, has lots of controversy.

I do not think in that night that neither of the 2 were in their primes when they met in 1987.

Well, what if this fight would have been in 1982 or 1983 at 15 rounds for the World Middleweight Championship?

Both at their complete primes?

This fight probably would have been the most anticipated fight of the decade and maybe all time, outside the HW division

this one is a toss up for me...your picks???

Leonard fought once in 1982, and he weighed 146. MW would be a very big jump at that time. How about Hagler neets him half way at Junior Middleweight ? In that case I'd pick Sugar Ray by UD.

I'd say we'd see roughly the same fight. Who wins would be more determined by who the judges are rather than the fighters. Ray would always be slick and nullifying to what Marvin brings and Hagler would chase and be semi effective at times.

You tell me which judges are showing up, and then I'll tell you the winner of the fight.

hagler still shows leonard too much respect,a very close fight that i think ray can win by impressing the judges with his flashier shots.

clear points decision for marvin. might even have finished it early. no doubt in my mind, haglers deterioration in the real bout was greater than rays
