Smith vs. Ryder scorecards
Smith was very flat and deserved a draw at best, yet the closest card was 116-112? Ridiculous.

This is what happens when you let fights marinate Eddie. How many times do you have to learn the same lesson?

The caleb plant showdown
Re: Smith vs. Ryder scorecards
Can’t say I had a pen and paper but according to my math and memory Ryder should have been up two or three rounds.
Smith was not sharp, looked lazy on his feet and a lazy right hook at times, especially down the stretch - fatigue? His jab was not commanding and was often missing the target.
Ryder really came to fight, pressed the action, outworked Smith who was almost useless on the inside.

Re: Smith vs. Ryder scorecards
How about Billy Joe, that's a big fight.
Re: Smith vs. Ryder scorecards
Ryder did everything right, Smith did everything wrong. No uppercuts against short oponent in inside game? No effective clinching to take steam out of him? Jabbing did not win a fight against short oponent who actually can fight. That was pure robbery and i am Smith fan. Ryder made a short height and reach an advantage for him in that fight
Plus he can take a shot, Smith landed some nice clean ones.

Re: Smith vs. Ryder scorecards
This was a real good little fight, Ryder showed a lot of defensive skill and lots of mental focus in this one, way closer fight than the score cards showed.. especially the one I think 117-111 anyways, Callums Smith has to sit and down and analyze what he is doing like to see Smith fight Saunders next..I think if Smith moves up to LHW he will have trouble, and it looks like making weight at 168 is weakening him..
Re: Smith vs. Ryder scorecards
Ryder won 4 rounds big perhaps 1 more. Thats 113 at best.
Callum Smith jabbed his way through the most of the first 6 rounds, won 8th and 10th for me so 115/116
Unfortunately you score each round 10-9. Until you can score fights using more of the numbers, this will happen where a casual observer see's that John Ryder won the fight, overall I agree he looked better and if you score on 1 unit then he did better, but its 12 units so he lost.

Re: Smith vs. Ryder scorecards
It was a close fight, although I had Ryder edging it I don't mind Smith getting it on the cards. But the cards were too wide.
Smith didn't look anywhere near his best, whether that was due to Ryder's style or just having an off day I don't know. But he will have to up his game massively if he intends to unify.
Ryder never seems to get the rub of the green on the scorecards, though. That is the fourth close fight he has lost by decision.
If Ryder is ever going to win a major title (and I hope he does) he will need to knock the champion out. Unfortunately for him all the SMW belt holders look to have pretty solid chins.

Re: Smith vs. Ryder scorecards
Might have been the worst robbery in recent memory
Re: Smith vs. Ryder scorecards
I never wrote down my scores. I had Ryder 3 ahead going in to the last round which i gave to Smith but i'd need to watch it again. Ryder was beaten before he arrived at the fuckin arena. The scorecards were sickening. The arseholes at Sky and Paul Smith were embarrassing. I like Callum Smith but he lost that fight.
Re: Smith vs. Ryder scorecards
You don't know how to score a fight mate. Ryder clearly won rd 12. On your card you scored 115-113 to Ryder, a 7-5 score is as close as you can get (without a kd or points deduction) to a draw.Stuarty wrote: ↑25 Nov 2019, 10:28 I never wrote down my scores. Re: Smith vs. Ryder scorecards
I thought Smith landed the cleaner shots in the 12th and fought back well against Ryders pressure but as i say i'll have to watch it again. I still had Ryder winning the fight but i don't know how to score a fight apparently so what do i knowLennox wrote: ↑25 Nov 2019, 11:24You don't know how to score a fight mate. Re: Smith vs. Ryder scorecards
Re-watched the final round there and i gave it to Smith again. I suppose you could make an argument either way but in no way was that a clear Ryder round. Maybe you're getting confused with the 11th which was a big round for him. Lot of Ryders shots were hitting the elbows and gloves and the cleaner and more eye catching shots came from Smith who also got his jab working better and slipped a few as well.

Re: Smith vs. Ryder scorecards
Only caught the last 4/5 rounds of this on the Sunday replay and I thought Ryder was the better fighter. Sky commentary seemed to throw praise to Smith in exchanges when he looked to come out worse off which was odd to me.
I assumed that maybe for the opening 6/7 rounds that I missed Smith had maybe been on cruise control. That's how the commentary also made it out to be the case.
No surprise to see a lot of uproar on here and social media with the scores though. Seems that Callum is a lucky boy.

115-113 Ryder, for me.
Re: Smith vs. Ryder scorecards
I think we’ve seen loads like this over the years, Eubank snr springs to mind of getting the nod when it looked otherwise on a few occasions, bottom line is that rightly or wrongly you have to rip the title off the champ to seal the deal
Re: Smith vs. Ryder scorecards
Given the controversy, I'm interested in watching. Is it at least a good watch?
Re: Smith vs. Ryder scorecards
Decent scrap...nothing great.
