Witter E.B.U. award

Junior Witter has been named EBU boxer of the year. Bit of a surprise to me , as his 2 contests last year were not that impressive wins over Andreas Kotelnik and Colin Lynes.
Also after giving him this award, the EBU said that Witter will have to give up his title if he challenges for the world title, so what happens if he loses in that challenge , he;s then title less, bit odd.

What's odd about that fighters always have to give up the European title to fight for a world title .

The decision to have him as EBU boxer of the year is puzzling to say the least though .

i always thought you could still hold on to the EBU title when you challanged for the world title, then if you won then of course you would give up the EBU one.

You should remain european champion unless you loss in a world-title shot to someone from Europe.

Of course, when our own BBBofC allow Graham Earl to remain British champion despite losing to Ricky Burns over 8 rounds I dont think we're in a position to comment.

Hang on, I'm sure fighters relinquish the EU belt to challenge for the title. I seem to recall that Eastman did so.

In the old days that was the case but not anymore .

Yes. Nicky Cook is another example. Talking of which, what's happened to his eliminator fight? It's off the boxrec schedule. Is someone injured?

Ya Nicky suffered some sort of injury and the fight is off .
