The Great Sugar Ray Leonard Top 5 All-time Greatest Fighters Ever
The great Sugar Ray Leonard picked his top 5 all time pound per pound great list in a ESPNDeportes Spanish TV show about boxing.
I was very surprised that he didn't include himself in the list. In the other hand, Jorge "El Travieso" Arce, the former 4 division World champion didn't like the list. Like if he was mad or angry that Sugar Ray didn't put himself in the list. Maybe he wanted the great Julio Cesar Chavez in there somehow.
These Mexican announcers were like surprised and astonished that Sugar Ray Leonard didn't include himself and wanted someone of the top 5 to be out. I guess they wanted someone out after you see the list.
Sugar Ray said that this is what he felt and saw and lived:
1. Muhammad Ali
2. Sugar Ray Robinson
3. Joe Louis
4. Henry Armstrong
5. Roberto Duran
I think that this is a pretty good list from someone that knows boxing like Leonard. This is according to his experience and expertise to the subject matter.
Your thoughts. What do you think of his top 5 ever list?

Robinson, greb, Langford, Armstrong and Charles. Chavez ruins yours. We all know he wasn't as great as Whitaker.

That's just one fight. And it was way over his natural weight of 130-135. That said, Whitaker did outbox him, I had it 120-108 for Sweet Pea..Onetimeonly wrote: ↑01 Dec 2019, 11:25Robinson, greb, Langford, Armstrong and Charles. Chavez ruins yours. We all know he wasn't as great as Whitaker.

He was better at 140 than he was at 130 and he brought Whitaker down to 142. His resume past the loss isn't better than Whitaker's either. Neither is top 5, just the easiest way to point out that egregious error. Chavez is closer to top 50 than top 5.AntonioMartin wrote: ↑01 Dec 2019, 16:14That's just one fight. For me, it goes down to Ali, Armstrong, Charles, Greb, Langford, and Robinson. Really hard to say which one just misses it. Leonard himself would be next. I don't think anyone else really has a case.

I really don't see the case for Leonard being ahead of Pacquiao and Mayweather.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑02 Dec 2019, 16:50 For me, it goes down to Ali, Armstrong, Charles, Greb, Langford, and Robinson. To be fair Leonard has some monster wins on his record.Cojimar 1946 wrote: ↑02 Dec 2019, 20:27I really don't see the case for Leonard being ahead of Pacquiao and Mayweather.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑02 Dec 2019, 16:50 For me, it goes down to Ali, Armstrong, Charles, Greb, Langford, and Robinson. But a short career. Very short. Great fighter, though. One of my favorites.littlepug wrote: ↑02 Dec 2019, 20:49To be fair Leonard has some monster wins on his record.Cojimar 1946 wrote: ↑02 Dec 2019, 20:27

I think that Floyd is above Sugar Ray. Too many accomplishments to count.Cojimar 1946 wrote: ↑02 Dec 2019, 20:27I really don't see the case for Leonard being ahead of Pacquiao and Mayweather.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑02 Dec 2019, 16:50 For me, it goes down to Ali, Armstrong, Charles, Greb, Langford, and Robinson. I think that those 5 that Sugar Ray chose are "THE IT" of boxing. I call it "The Mount Rushmore of Boxing plus One"

I think most people have in their top 5; or at least very close.

Benny Leonard was a great fighter. However, he was not Top 5.

People are rated based on accomplishments in their own eras and in that respect they both seem to have a pretty clear edge. Manny Pacquiao is a guy who fought extensively at featherweight yet was able to rise all the way to welterweight and campaign there with success for years.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑03 Dec 2019, 11:52Try opening your eyes.Cojimar 1946 wrote: ↑02 Dec 2019, 20:27

That would be like Sugar Ray Leonard rising to light heavyweight and beating the best light heavyweights year after year while past his prime and giving up massive amounts of height and reach fight after fight.
Manny Pacquiao was only 5'5 1/2. It's pretty amazing that someone who started where he did was able to campaign successfully so high in weight and remain consistent.
